If it is the old 3ds model it's the aqua blue one in the thumbnail. But most of my videos are in Portuguese but I guess it would still help to see. Can I ask you just one thing? I had a problem while I was trying to open my 3DS (it's an old model). I removed the first part from the back (the one with 4 screws) and now I'm trying to remove the second part but the screw in the top left corner and the one in the bottom left corner are stripped and I don't know how to remove them. Could you help me?

Oh I'm sorry to hear that! Can you solder? Usually people solder a new screw over the stripped one. But sometimes drilling is the only way, but you have to be careful

This happened to me as a kid, at first it happened really rarely and wasnt worried but at some point it just wouldn't boot up at all. I got a new 3ds afterwards but I was curious about why this happened. I figured out kinda it had something to do with a cable since sometimes the way my console was opened would make my 3ds boot, but was still a kid and really didn't knew much about electronics. Thank you without your explanation I wouldn't have found the issue. It was the backlight cable from where I wasn't looking and broke the switch thing on the connecter.

Thank you Camila, Im super relieved. I bought a new 3ds (the small one) and I had this problem. I might swich the cable or change its position if this continues. The battery seems to be working at like 70 per cent and it dies with the pop when I still have power so it must be one of those cables.Great videos. Cheers from Portugal!!!

First off, your English was great in this video! If you hadn’t mentioned that you were rusty I wouldn’t have even thought anything of it. This is hands down the best 3ds troubleshooting video I’ve ever seen! I’ve got a question though. I’ve had this issue happen where I’ve tested the ribbon cables to be working using another board, and when swapping the original board back in the popping comes back. Do you know which fuses would cause this issue?

I accidentaly broke the latch for backlight's ribbon cable. I'm glad it's quite an easy fix. Thanks for this video, I was scared it could've been something else. I'm currently waiting for replacements.

I think mine is related to the backlight on the lower screen, i remember having it flicker a bit, it didn't really bother me but now i thinl that it is the faulty one that is preventing my 3ds from turning on. Thanks very much for the video! Really helpful.

Hello, thank you so much for this awesome video. My 3ds (old model) has been with me for more than 5 years, way more, and as of 2019 it started popping and turning off. My friend sold me his 3ds xl, but I want to try and fix my old one. I disassembled my old 3ds and so far no cables seem to be damaged. @@MilaNavi Hehe never panicked but I took it apart a few months ago, ordered a new screen, and then halted the process because I wasn't feeling like reverse engineering the ifixit tutorial:P. Started with it today, to figure out that a screen on Aliexpress which is called Nintendo 3DS NEW, is not just a new screen lol:P but a a part for a newer (I think 2015) version. . Tried the old stuff then again, broke a trigger cable in the process. As of by now, also a part of the 3d cable. But your tutorial really helped at least tring to figure some parts out. Still not sure, but pretty sure its that 3d cable. Trew in under a microscope and it has 3 cracks. Will give you an update once I have the parts and try again:P. Also broke the clamp for the camera connector but I am willing to hot glue that in. since I have learned from your video it is not needed for booting and I don't really think the end users I am trying this for cares. All in-all, this video is very usefull in trying to understand and troubleshoot, so thanks again. And yes please it would be helpfull if you could do the videos in English! It's hard for others to follow if not I think. Seems to be some good stuff over here:).

I have a 3ds and the led power indicator will not turn on I have tried cleaning the leads with isopropyl alcohol and checking the voltage on the battery the red light turns on when plugged in but no blue light when trying the power button I'm not sure if anyone has had a similar problem or may know of a solution but this video has helped a lot and very in formative to help mark off some guesses of why it wont turn on

maybe you have a blown fuse! there is a fuse near the battery, I believe it is marked as f1. thats the one you need to replace when it turns the charging light on but doenst power on. it is near the power button! check for continuity, if it doesnt beep its faulty

Thanks this helped me but just wanted you to let you know we found another cause. You are correct the card reader can’t cause the pop BUT a bad SD card can cause the issue. We took apart and put case back together with the SD card in the reader and it bricked the SD card. Switching to a new card stopped the popping sound and allowed the system to boot.

Bought a 3ds but the buttons would get stuck. Think the last person had skin on it. I went to clean out button area. I got the popping sound after putting it back together and turning it on. Luckily I only had to reseat 3 ribbon cables. That’s usually what it is. The large ribbon cable that connects the battery to the rest of the 3ds was not put in correctly. Very little experience with opening up consoles so im just glad I resolved it. I definitely won’t be opening anything else for a while tho lol

When I open my 3DS top screen all the way, it pops and shuts off if the battery is too full, the bottom screen is too bright, or if it’s charging. I can have the bottom screen set to brightness level 1 if I want to use 3D, but if it’s on brightness level 2, I can’t turn on 3D without the system shutting off. Hola, te cuento mí problema, lo que pasa es que ya cambien el flex de los altavoces pero esta vez ya no hace el sonido de poping, solo hacen flash las 2 pantalla (la superior con un poco mas de brillo) y se apagan, pero si le pongo una sd no encienden, solo el led azul pero se apaga de manera distinta, porque sin sd el led y todo se cortan de energía pero con sd el led azul si se apaga pero suave como cuando se apaga normal la consola. You can get this problem by seating the ribbon cable wrong in the connector aswell (angle) Very common problem for ppl that dont have worked on these consoles before.

I'm not sure what my issue is. Blue light turns on for about 2-3 seconds, turns off, I hear a pop, so I assume the speakers are fine, and the bottom screen flashes blue very quickly. I'm working with a regular New 3DS. I heard in a different video, about replacing the top screen of a New 3DS, that if whats happening to me happens, it means the top screen isn't getting power, but according to this video that shouldn't matter? This video applies only for the old models of the 3ds :) but just for information, even if your speaker pops the ribbon cable might be damaged! But I have not yet done this test in the new models sadly

Guys i need to tell you!! It has another problem that cause this! I bought an old 3ds xl model for 24 euros, second hand, the flex cable of the speakers was damaged (works great except popping sound and turn off when i open more the upper screen) and i bought another one. Today i repaired it, it was really hard, only for skilled people. Well, everything ok, i assemble all, but i forgot a little flex cable comming from the down-right motherboard. Its the digitalizer i think! I forgot it because when i assembled the motherboard it was behind it and couldnt see it. If you dont connect this flex, the nintendo does the same thing as a faulty speaker flex. Dont forgive to connect it! Or maybe its in bad condition!

I Know you get a lot of requests but a 3DS I am working on turns on but the screens are black but turned on and I replaced the wifi module, RF reader, and microphone to try to get it to work

@@MilaNavi no it's running normal firmware from what I heard from the last owner he spilled rubbing alcohol on it while cleaning. I did some work on it and found the bottom screen was broken and replaced it but it just ended up only with a black screen

in the old 3ds and old 3ds XL yes! or it can also be a fault in the motherboard, but its not common. a faulty screen wont make it pop.

esse problema q mostro no vídeo é de hardware mesmo, a luz demora um pouco pra apagar. esse caso que a luz acende e apaga na hora q vc está relatando geralmente é falha na leitura do cartão sd. são desbloqueados? pq se são provavelmente não está lendo o luma

De nada! Provavelmente seja isso. Vc pegou usados? Pega um cartão novo e coloca os 2 arquivos boot do luma e vê se muda alguma coisa

@@MilaNavi isso, peguei eles como sucata, mas com as placas funcionando, coloquei os arquivos, e tentei fazer o procedimento de select + start + X + power e dai ele permaneceu por mais de 1 segundo com o led ligado, dai a tela de baixo ascendeu e apagou rapidamente e desligou, coloquei o sd no pc e percebi que ele mexeu nos arquivos de boot e gerou novos arquivos, com o sd agora toda vez que aperta para ligar ele pisca a tela de baixo e desliga, acredito ser bom sinal, mas creio tambem que o flat do 3d está ruim

I have the same issue, i moved both of my screens and the speaker ribbon cable to a different nintendo 3ds and they worked just fine but when i moved them back it gave me the popping noise and it turned off, i believe it could be the motherboard but I'm not sure if its the whole motherboard or a specific part of it. Any thoughts ?

I would just swap the whole motherboard. there are no schemes for those boards making it hard to diagnose

no! if the 2ds xl pops I´ve been told its usually the top screen that is faulty but I still haven´t got one with that issue to be able to test it

Hi! I have a question for you regarding the 3ds. Have you experienced a 3ds that doesn’t charge when it’s plugged in, but does boot when a battery with a charge is in it? I noticed damage to pad 4 but cannot find a trace to make to charge the system. Do you have suggestions or diagram of the board?

Hi! I have come across this issue recently, have you checked the fuse near the charger port? The one I had had both fuses ok, but I found a shorted capacitor near a chip in that area, but I wasnt able to fix the issue

@@MilaNavi both F1 fuses are also showing continuity on mine as well. I wonder if it’s possible to have the same capacitor be the issue. It charged fine before changing the speaker ribbon interestingly. I have some donor boards and a working board to reference. Do you know which capacitor is shorted on your board?

No, you need a good speaker cable plugged in for your console to boot

@@theraider1268 you might need to replace both screen and ribbon cable. I would test only the speaker cable first though, if the screen issue persists then I would replace it too

Check if the 2 cables from the screen that are connected to ribbon cable are well seated, as well as the small one from the bottom screen if you took that one out

@@MilaNavi I think those cables are ok, I just re opened the 3DS and found that the top screen ribbon cable that goes into the hinge its a bit cut, do you think that that's the issue? on this video you disconnected that cable and still turned on, what do you recommend that I do?, should I replace the whole top screen?, I really want to play Ocarina of time like 8 years ago

I never heard of that happening before but maybe its overheating in some way? Maybe you should get it looked at by a professional before a chip gets burnt
