3F UL Gear Shell2 - A lightweight Hybrid Tent - It's Huge!!

Hi everyone. Today we are looking at the Shell2, a new 2-person hybrid tent from 3F UL Gear. I've had this for just over a month and thought I would take it out and test it out. It's a fairly unique tent design in that it uses a tent pole and trekking poles in it's structure. This makes a very sturdy and cool looking tent.... and its less than 2 kg! In this video I'll be putting it up for the first time, to show you how the process works and going through it's facts and figures. I'll also be testing it out for the night and letting you know my thoughts on its useability, quality and if any issues arise. I've only seen 1 other KZbin video on this tent (which doesn't do an overnight test), so I hope you find this useful.

Great video! Thank you for sharing! I am also considering buying this tent recently for a 6-day trekking in north Sweden and there's not much reviewing on this one till now. I wonder if you have any further thoughts on this tent that you might like to share. Eg. how does it perform during strong wind and rain? Is it hard to set up even after some prectice?

Thank you. It’s a great tent and pretty good in moderate winds. When I’ve had all the guy-lines staked out it’s pretty solid and would take a lot of weather. Unfortunately (being in Greece) I’ve not been able to test it in heavy rain yet. But I’m confident it would be ok. As far as setting up in concerned, after a few times I’m sure it would be ok, although I wouldn’t want to set it up in strong winds. I hope that helps. All the best 😊👍🏼⛺️

Hi. Do you think this would fot someone 6'8"? The inner states 215cm but the outer fly is 245 and appear flat which on paper, should be enough space!

If you don’t use the inner fly then yes there should be enough room as it pretty huge. With the fly I think it would be snug. Mainly due to the fact that the walls slope and therefore the usable space is a little less than 215 cm. I hope that helps 😊🏕️👍🏼

@@GreeklishOutdoors Thanks for the quick reply! I'll probably give it a miss then as there are other tents where I could just use the outer fly that are much easier to pitch. Naturehike Opalus 2 is very long without the inner! Sloped sides are a nightmare for me trying to fit. My search continues!

@GrundigWizz No problem. I’m 6’2” and sometimes find it difficult, so I can only imagine what it’s like for you. Most tents I’ve seen for very tall people are also quite heavy. Best of luck with your search 👍🏼🏕️

you're like the only review of this tent i think lol. The tent is supposed to be either 1570gr or 1900 but i cant find where the difference comes from, do you know how heavy it is without hiking poles but including everything else? (tent, stakes, tent pole, guy lines, ground sheet etc)

@@GreeklishOutdoors Thanks! Ill check out the vid you mentioned too. I'm trying to decide whether to get the shell 2 or a lanshan 2. Or maybe a naturhike tent but the extra weight is dissuading me from those. Ill be using it with a friend and we're both kinda tall which is why the shell 2 looks like a good option even with it weighing a bit more.

I’ve just weighed everything…. Total weight (minus trekking poles) = 1942 g Breakdown: Inner + outer = 1238 g Tent pole = 225 g Tent stakes = 125 g These items total 1588 g (minimum trail weight). ------------ The additional 354 g is the footprint (244 g) and the stuff sack (110 g). I’ve only reviewed the Lanshan 1 and although I made a couple of errors in the setup, after trying it again I didn’t like it (Space and stretching of materials). I know that the Lanshan 2 is bigger, but personally I would go for the Shell2. Yes it’s not the most straightforward tent to put up at first, but I prefer the design and there’s more room (including usable storage space). I’m tall as well (6 ft 2 inches) and the Shell2 was great (I could sit up). This was not the case in the Lanshan. If there’s two of you, the components of the Shell2 can easily be split between you (less than 1.1 kg each including trekking poles).

Yes you should fit just fine lying down. However, your head might touch the top when you are sat up straight. ⛺️😊👍🏼
