I had this pack for the AT in 2019. It held up will with 25-30 pound loads although the shoulder straps at the shoulder were always compressed after a while. Mine had the hole for the hip belt and since I used a pack liner and put everything in dry sacks, I never had a water problem. The mesh held out very well and I used it to carry quite a bit. Didn't find the side compression straps of any use since the pack was always packed fully. Pocket cords didn't do much as the fabric is very stiff. Occasionally had to re-connect the loader strap clips as they would come undone now and then for some reason. Never used a pad due to my pack not having anything hard inside. Straps holding on hip belts had to be checked regularly as they would loosen especially in wet weather. Belt buckle worked perfectly but with all the weight I lost, I couldn't quite tighten it enough after a few months on the trail. I hung two 1 litre bottles on the shoulder straps for easier access as getting at the side pockets was tough for me. Hip belt pockets were not big enough for my iPhone 7 plus.

I’ve had this pack for a few years. Mine is the dyneema version. I cut a bunch of straps off, cut several inches off the height, and made it a cinch sack. Good review. I own quite a few 3f UL Gear products and am happy with them all. Highly recommend their stuff! 🙂👊🏻

Excellent review. I bought mine (old version with holes for the hip belt) earlier of this year and used it during backpacking in May. I started with a total weight of 23Lb, but most of the load was on my hip and relatively comfortable. I may like the older version because the hip pocket locations are somewhat adjustable. The pockets seem to be "very side" by looking at yours, but mine could be "side / front" for easier access. One of the best features you might have missed is : the load lifter heights are adjustable (you can unclip them and change the heights. I adjust to the highest to relieve any load on my shoulders.

Thanks for the informative review! We have a married couple that we have known for 20+ years and are always drilling us on our hiking trips! The wife and I are UL hikers and we are fortunate to have jobs that allows us to afford our adventures and various ul gear, like you mentioned American made ultralight packs are very expensive as well as their tents and down quilts we currently own the zpack arc haul and my wife has the hyperlite windrider 2400 and we have the zpack triplex tent I love all them but as you mentioned very expensive compared to the Chinese 3f UL .... But because of our fortunate budget expense and our "inquisitive" friends! My wife and I are going to buy each one of them this Chinese made version of a ul pack and the same companies ul tent and a few other ul items as a gift so they can enjoy more of the outdoors and enjoy the comforts of going ultralight! After watching your review this has given me the feeling to go ahead and purchase two packs and a tent made by 3f UL! Again thanks for the great review! Trek on!

Thanks for doing this, it was my main resource for deciding to purchase one. After watching this, I decided to order one of these from Ali Expresss, as I could not find the newer version of the XPAC Large in black on Amazon. Indeed it can be confusing trying to make sure you are ordering the newer style without the holes in the tube for the hip belt. It turns out that the reason I could not find this pack in black (I require that color due to leaving it on the bottom of a ski slope in winter and then having to ski back to it), was it apparently is not available right now from the manufacturer. But that has not stopped some sellers from listing it anyway, collecting your payment, and then trying to get you to switch to the white one. Trying to rectify the situation became quite a learning experience in the do's and do nots of dealing with an Ali order gone wrong, so I thought it best to do another video regarding the bait and switch scam and Paypal refund scam the seller tried on me (and how I successfully resolved it) - for anyone that might want this pack, but in a different color. @@TheEffortlessMan Thanks for that. I never did end up getting an UL pack as yet (I must have about 20 packs of various sizes kicking around here now). I think in the past year there has been another popular design emerge, so we'll have to wait for someone to do a decent review on those perhaps.

Thanks for the great review video. Having used this version and your wife's (cordura) version 40+16, which do you prefer and why (you mention this in the video, but it's not conclusive)? If I'm not mistaken there is hardly a weight savings and the Cordura version is bigger and the side pockets (are huge) can hold 2L bottles. The Cordura version has very big belt pockets and if you use a foam pad (like I do), it transfers weight very nicely to the hips. Aside from higher status of fabric (and it's waterproofness), which can be dealt with nicely in the Cordura by using a plastic trash bag inside the pack and/or outside pack rain cover, and the fact that it comes with better torso compatibility, I wonder if there is any real good reason to buy this pack over the old one costing 1/3 the price (especially if you already have on like me)? Does the new pack feel more comfortable (against the old with a foam structure)? Would like to hear your thoughts, thanks again.

The padded back rails are definitely a game changer between the two packs My padded back rails keep my back a lot cooler and larger loads are more comfortable that said my pack is a lot smaller so your gear must be a lot smaller if you carry a lot of gear my wife's version is better if you have an ultralight setup that doesn't take up a lot of space my setup's better but in winter I even have problems fitting everything in my pack. And a perfect world you done both like we do

Hey there from BC, what a great review. I'm looking at getting one of these because of the price and my budget, but I'm not really sure of the difference between dyneema and X-Pac and UHMWPE. Can anyone help me out? I want something waterproof so I can just stuff my sleeping bag into the bottom without having to use another waterproof compression bag inside the pack. Are the 2 materials the same, because 3F UL have both and they look the same🤔

Great review. I have this pack and I love it for shorter trips. I put a piece of corrugated plastic (corflute) in the back to add a light "frame." You can really load this out as there is a ton of material to go "up" with gear. Sits real nice on my back. Thick shoulder straps. I have the older version with the "holes" for the waist belt. I like that better because it was removable. I don't always like to have my waist straps. Looks like you can't remove these like with the older version.
