Jerk is a little strong for him. He is just dimwitted and lazy, not really malicious. He's very loving and kind ultimately. Gumball is the true Jerk, especially in later seasons.

Even though people undermine season 1 I like it and later seasons have actual relatable kid and early teen problems. I bet most of us were living our hobby like karate in "GI", but the fire died out very fast and we had to accept it as well as starting valuing our time. Maybe I'm wrong, but Gumball feels like the only show that talks about actual most common problems in a natural way despite trying to be as wacky as possible. That episode also really goes to show how good the songs are in TAWOG and that's just the beginning
