Larry, the cardboard guy who works at the DVD store in "The DVD" and the gas station in "The Spoon", is actually one of those characters in a show that does literally EVERY SINGLE JOB. They even point this out more often later in the series. Anton, the character that's a piece of toast, is basically the Kenny of "Gumball". He always gets killed in a comical way, but is fine later on.

So, Darwin WAS a pet, but he just…kinda grew legs and is now seen as part off the family. I dunno how. I know WHY, but that’s a spoiler. So essentially Darwin is Gumball’s ADOPTED brother. I think it’s best I go through a few of the side characters: Anton is the toast. You’ll see him meet his fate a lot. Bobert is the robot, pretty much the most literal person you could ever meet, and he only wants to be a real boy. Miss Simian is like, the worst teacher to ever exist. And that’s why I love her. She’s been teaching during the Stone Age. Penny is Gumball’s love interest. She’s a peanut and my fourth favorite character. Trust me when I say that’s an accomplishment too. You’ve met Banana Joe already, he’s a jokester. And shares Anton’s bad luck. Alan is the balloon and is the most obnoxiously sweet character ever.
