You should check out the manga. It was cut from the anime, but in the manga, there was a group called the Four Sage's that were cheering for Buddha. They included Buddha, as well as the 3 other most enlightened individuals to ever live. Socrates (Greece), Confucius (China), and Jesus (Israel).

I wondered that too. Like did he not have something to place all their misfortune in? The Six realms in this anime are awesome. IMO, it's a bit better than how Naruto uses them with Pain.
