Seems like more work than wrapping in ceramic blamket and enclosing with sheet metal for mechanical integrity? I know... everything is built for inspectors these days, not the customer. To that end, wouldn't it be nice to tax the city for their enjoyment/use of private property? Not gonna happen obviously, cause nobody would run for office!

Yeah I suggested the same thing but apparently inspectors hate ceramic wrap and will fail the inspection almost everytime in certain cases

The way I’ve done them and got passed on inspection is by the 3 layer method on the door.( I wrap everything and leave doors exposed till end). Take washer and nut off door. First layer is gonna be fit snug to door. Just push the wrap through the hangers coming out of door. Then for the next two pieces add 2 inches to length and width each time. Screw nut and bolt back into door. Fire wrap will condense a little but will look good.

Why should double layer if it's 2 hour fire rated?

It’s because the system it self would give you 2 hours not the product Depend on the profile and time demand as if the location and regulation require 4 hours u might end up with more than 2 or 3 layers
