Combining Seam Sealing and Welding In Collision Repair

Standard Operating Procedure for the combination of seam sealers and spot welding (STRSW), or weld bonding. Work quickly to perform spot welds while the seam sealer is still uncured. Remember to reapply 3M™ NVH Dampening Material and Pillar Foam as needed to match OEM. Restore corrosion protection with 3M™ Rust Fighter-I™ or Cavity Wax.

I'm curious if you need to repair a pillar in the future with the structural closed cell foam in it how would you go about that if you need welding? Won't it ignite?

Is this like the seam sealer they use on car from the factory. That hard sealer stuff you see on the underside. Is that like this stuff? Trying to find something good to reseal my seems once I treat the rusty surface areas

chop shops don't do this through work. This is how you "wish" they would repair your car.

Is this stuff full of isocyanates? If it is can 3 m find a safer substitute I see several companies advertising 2 k primers isocyanate free.

after they talk about corrosion protection right at the end are they filling the cavity with expandable foam?

If you use closed-cell foam, the foam will not absorb moisture.

How does a panel get spot welded when it has seam sealer in between the layers? I thought spot welding requires bare metal for electrical contact on both inner surfaces...

I will burn in that area and bond the metals.. but area surrounding it will remain intact! same with Weldthru primer! the weld will be etched on the edges and prevent corrosion. so its a 3 double method toprotect rust down the road.!

With it still being wet i assume once the panel is squeezed together for spot welding it probably disperses the seam sealer in the area enough to allow the spot weld.

I checked with a body shop and he said DON"T DO THIS THE SEAM SEALER IS FLAMMABLE!

With Mig Welding some are with a Pro Spot it isn't. That's why you can weld bond through panel bond and be fine vs a mig. But show me 1 body shop that does all this cause we dont.
