Love your top 100 videos. I may be the odd one here, but I often watch/listen to board content when I'm cooking, doing jobs round the house etc. It would make a huge difference if you said the name of each game during its entry (you work it into the entry for about half the games). I am aware this sounds like "mke ur vidz 4 me" and if I am the tiny minority and this isn't an issue for 99% of folks then no worries, but figured would give a shout at the feedback 😊

I think the Frostpunk boardgame would be right up your ally. A very immersive survival experience in a grim alternative history. What I really like is the dusk deck which is made up mostly of cards based on what laws/choices you have previously made. Sometimes making the choice that's the right thing to do might end up dooming everyone. As far as video game adaptions go this is very well done. Brutal learning curve with loads of competing interests. Best played at solo mode, Frostlander expansion also adds a lot to the game.

You continue to be one of my favorite reviewers and I'm continually impressed with your content, even with bad mics. Curious if you have played and have opinions on some of my favs, but reasonably unknown games: Citrus, Marracash (Dorra), Portobello Market, Medina (anither Dorra), and Pixie Queen. All have a huge amount of direct player interaction.
@3MBG3 ай бұрын
I know none of those games! Which would be your top pick of them?
@KenCantrell3 ай бұрын
@@3MBG for 4 players, my own would be MarraCash -- I love the auctions in it, but there's also a constant diplomacy-like renegotiation of partnerships that happens. For most that I game with, it would probably be Medina at that player count -- no auctions here, but again there's a lot of "working together on one turn, then against each other on the next" happening. Citrus for the 2p/3p win though I think. Portobello Market has the advantage of playing in under 45min (our last was under 30) even at 4p. These are all shared board, shared incentives games, except for pixie queen. That one is just a brutal worker placement game where the game is as much against you as anything and the only way to win is to aggressively work against others.

It was great for a time but lost its appeal).

There's probably enough here for a whole video, and i should do that at some point. Some that just slowly slid of include Caverna, i like the game, i just havent played it in 5 years or more now. Scythe, Imperial ASsault, X-wing, all games that just sit there really and therefore keep sliding out of mind. Some of the hardest falls were Cthulhu Wars, which i love, but its just an impossible nightmare to get and store. And the fun of the game is outweighed by its sheer impracticality. I think recently, 4x games in general have taken a hit. I played one too many very long Twilight Imperium game that dragged on well past its best, and it just killed my desire to play that sort of game. So Eclipse has come and gone very quickly on the top 100

Hi Mate, always looking forward to your next top 100 list. I've got a Q about Star Wars rebellion. While I liked (not loved) the Star Wars movies, I'm not a fan as in I don't possess anything SW-related (no lego sets, no nothing). Having said that, I hear the game popping up on almost everyone's list so I'm wondering: Is the game still great when the theme is excluded. I heard SW rebellion is similiar to (but better than) 1775 rebellion, but while I love history, I'm not a fan of (space) fiction. Would SW Rebellion be a good game for someone not really interested in SW theme?
@3MBG2 ай бұрын
I think it would lose a little, but i think its pretty hard to not know who Darth Vader is for example, so most of the theme would still work in the sense of the game making rational sense as to why it does things the way it does. I do still own a copy and like it. Blood Rage and Ankh I've never played, I don't tend to get much CMON kickstarter stuff. I do like Chaos in the Old World though, which apparently inspires all the subsequent games like that

Dead of Winter is the only zombie game I'll play, but I think I'll check out Dawn of the Zeds. The game store I hang out at has a huge library of games you can pull off the shelf and play (he even allows trusted regulars to borrow for a few days). I know he has Dawn. I'll borrow it before I plunk down $100.

Good call, because it is a beast in terms of complexity. But once you get past the rules and learn them, its very fun
@toddboughn51683 ай бұрын
@@3MBG Called the owner. He's going to pull it for me and I'm going to pick it up tonight. He told me that he doesn't think anyone has ever played that copy and he might be willing to sell it to me cheap. Might have a new game for Halloween.

Surprised Spheres of Influence wasn’t on your list this year considering how high it’s been before. Unless I blinked when you listed it in the first half.

@@RichardArpin I don’t think that’s the case as he listed several other OOP unreasonably priced games. However, tbf it is the most expensive.

I've never owned a copy, and haven't played it in 5 years or more now. Out of sight, out of mind. It's still a very good game, but if i simply don't play a game, i don't really think about it when rating them.

A Feast for Odin The Great Zimbabwe Battle Line Inis Istanbul Cascadia Too Many Bones All missing from your list :P Love to see Tyrants of the Underdark get some attention . That game is not talked about enough.
@3MBG3 ай бұрын
Inis is on my shelf to play, and I have a review of Istanbul: the dice game ready to release (even though i know that's a different game). I like cascadia, it was just out of the top 100 (i prefer harmonies which is quite similar). Didn't care for TMB but have be'en meaning to try A Feast for Odin for ages, its just such a big bear of a game something else always gets picked ahead of it.

@@3MBG Thanks for the reply! AFFO is not nearly as intimidating as many make it seem. They complain about there being too many actions when really there's only 10 and the rest are just more powerful actions of the same type. I would really recommend just not learning about islands at all for first game and just play a few rounds. Becomes simple really quick. I can see how TMB isn't everyone's cup of tea. I need to look into Harmonies. It's getting a lot of love but I tend to avoid newer games. Excited for you to try Inis. It's by far my favorite area control game.

War of the Ring and Star Wars Rebellion is on this list, so I'm curious to know what you would think of Dune: War for Arrakis. I'm guessing you haven't tried it yet :)
@3MBG3 ай бұрын
No, not yet. As i don't do paid content i tend to get passed over for copies of expensive kickstarter titles most of the time. The publishers don't really want "reviews" as such, they really just want ads. And i rarely back anything myself because im working through review copies for other games. I do want to give it a try, but it will likely be a while away
@MisanthropyAnD1233 ай бұрын
@3MBG Thanks and that's totally understandable. I forgot to mention, perhaps also try Ankh: Gods of Egypt seeing as you had Kemet: Blood and Sand. Different games offcourse but they share the Egyptian theme as well as being area control oriented. Thanks for this awesome top 100. Great job. RIP 🎤 🎙

I won’t buy certain games because it relies too much on dice rolls such as Robinson Crusoe, Final Girl, Nemesis etc. But there are some I’ve enjoyed so idk what to do lol Altogether I’d rather know what will happen as a result of my actions. But yes I understand there’s a thematic tension to the unknown.

Re: dune imperium, have you tried the team game yet? For me, much more engaging than the standard game, and with more tension. For asymmetric player powers 'on the edge of broken', give age of atlantis a go if you see it. It's part worker placement, part tower defence, part tech tree, and perhaps its highlight is the worker morale system, where you can push them hard, but that makes them unhappy (with consequences). A shame the fulfilment was such a sh!tshow, with a lucky dip as to whether backers got their game, and that's harmed its profile. As such, that would be my 'under the radar' suggestion. This war of mine very much my favourite, but I fully agree with caveating / cautioning people of what they should expect. Very much an experience. Good to see Thunderbirds so high. For me very much the most engaging Pandemic game, and one of the most thinky, despite having dice rolls for success. Also one where if played well, requires players to talk to each other about what they want to do.
