He is right . I recently bought one and it’s one and done. I luckily bought a like new but used one that already had scalarworks mount . It’s crazy that the new cost is thru the roof but these are good. All good optics have gone to crazy prices , I saw a smaller set of Swarovski EL binos for $2,800 . Me,… I try to find used and in excellent condition. One thing I wish I had done differently, instead of buying more guns, focus in on a few really good weapons that fit the role that you need it for and go with best quality . I heard Tactical Rifleman (Carl ) say , choose one good weapon an practice like crazy with it and let it become a part of you, put it thru its paces so you know instinctively how to use it, develop muscle memory. ( my own words but trying to describe what he said)

The cheapest is still iron sights, has always worked for me. I grew up with a Colt SP1 that was my dad’s and i still have it so i guess im just use to it that way. I just recently put a Vortex Razor HD 1-8 x 24 FFP, also with the BDC reticle, on a new AR that I am finishing the set up on. I am looking forward to running that gun and scope set up. I saw the 1-10 FFP, but the $2500-$2700 price tag was beyond my wallet, but the 1-8 will suit my uses nicely. Especially as I caught it on sale for around $500, which let me spend a little more to get a great scope mount for it. Went with the Scalarworks Leap 08 which sits a bit taller (definitely more comfortable to use the scope at 2” above the bore vs 1.5” AB) but is also the lightest and a rock solid mount.

I just bought this optic five weeks ago but with a milradian reticle. I have the distances memorized for my drop data. I use a quick wind formula for windage, a technique I’ve been using since 2007, it’s fast and precise. I’ve ran a turret check throughout the entire elevation and it has less than a 1% tracking error which is very precise!! I was very hesitant to buy a Vortex optic because I’ve seen a very lot of them not track correctly and I’ve seen many of them get sent back for warranty and the optics in question do not get fixed even after being sent back 3 times or more. The only Vortex optic that I haven’t seen malfunction anymore than other optics is the Razor line. I’m hoping my new optic does hold up, only time will tell but I am enjoying it so far. Thanks!!!!

@TTime685 I got mine for specific purposes. I need 10x for shooting groups at 100-300 yards. I also wanted bright illumination for close in shooting. It does both well. All optics are compromises. ACOGS are extremely durable but have no diopter adjustment and a very tight eyebox. Also, the binden technique for cqb is questionable. Most other LPVO's, with the except a handful, lack true daylight bright illumination. Many of the ones that do use wire reticles that limit their design.

I've had a Viper PST gen 2 1-6 for about 5 years that I have been pretty rough on and it's given me no issues. Granted it's not anywhere near this and the rectile is extremely basic. The 1-8 Trijicon Accupower is a good piece of glass. Picked one up for $800, and it’s been serving me well. For people who can’t afford the Razor 1-10, try finding the old 1-6 Razor, I still have one on an 18” barreled rifle of mine and it works just as good as the day I got it. With Vortex, don’t go cheap, the PST line isn’t Japan made and even though it has a lifetime guarantee, too, I don’t find them nearly as robust.

For anyone else who has this problem, I would recommend the 2-10x or 3.6-18x mark 5hd with red dot on top OR ACOG with red dot on top. These have been my favorites, so I can still shoot parallax free 1x red dots for up close and get down on my scope for engaging targets at distance. Thanks Chad

This optic, Nightforce ATACR, and the Trijicon VCOG are all super tough. The problem with all three is price though. Eotech's Vudu is probably the cheapest LPVO that is durable from my experience.

I run a 1-8 atacr. Very good optic, probably my favorite lpvo reticle. As with all lpvo’s, the diopter MUST be dialed to your eye for a good sight picture on the bottom as well as the top. Heavy as shit tho.

For the people complaining and saying they are poor: buy irons. Buy the metal ones. And honestly, that's what I run. I'd rather have a $70 rear and fixed front sight post, and $3,930 in ammo. And that's literally the life choice I have made....

How about reviewing a more affordable scope? Perhaps one with a second focal plane or different manufacturer that is still reliable and durable. Maybe a Vortex Viper 1-6? I do love the Vortex no-nonsense warranty. I see this item is 2500 online at OP.

I would trade my Nightforce 1X8 for this scope sight unseen. Nightforce claims they produced a 1X8 FFP but in reality it’s a 1X6 cuz the higher power 8 zoom is trash. Granted I bought the less expensive version on sale at $1500 but never imagined I had to pay another G for actual power settings.

Did I see the illustration right? Is the reticle only partially illuminated? That's my complaint against so many of Primary Arms scopes, (I don't have the mooney to play with the more exalted brands). If I need or want a reticle, I need it to be fully illuminated, not merely listed as illuminated when only only part of it actually is. Anyone looking across a bean field at dusk trying to shoot a deer in front of a rapidly-shadowing treeline will know why an illuminated "doughnut" just doesn't cut the mustard.

I know people swear by LPVO’s, and how popular they are. Maybe I need to get more time behind them? But every one I’ve looked through, to me, proper sight acquisition just takes way too long. Finding the right eye relief to get that nice full picture, chasing away the parallax, all that black shifting on the edge..then once I got it, any movement and it’s gone. I don’t really get that with a dedicated scope, obviously not with a red dot or eotech…or with a magnifier, or with an acog. I’ll say that’s just me. I’m definitely not the most high speed low drag person. Recognizing my own slowness and deficiencies I stick with what works for me…the eotechs, aimpoints some with magnifiers, and an Acog on one setup. Vortex crossfire on a dedicated rifle. But me and LPVOS’ just don’t mix well. If time was of the essence, I can’t deal with hunting around an extra few seconds for a good picture.
