14:18 great point made btw, so there's also a discussion in Ukraine whether it is appropriate to use this word or not. They are saying "pidor" to discribe russians and if you look this word up in a dictionary, you'll see "f*ggot" as a primary option of the word translation. However, in Ukraine it is very rarely and hardly ever used to describe homosexuals. The word "pidor" itself derives from the Greerk word "pederast" that describes people with sexual attraction to underage males - basically, homosexual p*dophiles. Thus the closest analogue it could get in English is the f-word. However, the original meaning of the Ukrainian word is almost lost and now it is primarily used to describe russian soldiers, since most of them are involved in cases of r*ping civilians, both underage and adults and both male and female. There are also recorded cases of Ukrainian soldiers being r*ped in russian captivity. And just from a phonetic standpoint saying "p*dor" is quicker than saying "russkiye", which helps in combat situations when you need to quickly announce that there's an enemy close. So yes, that's why you may see the f-word in the subtitles, but that doesn't mean that Ukrainian soldiers try to disrespect homosexuals in any way. Especially given that there are lots of LGBTQ+ people fighting on Ukrainian side

I believe f-word is also used because of the fact of such a treacherous invasion 24 february 2022 that happened early in the morning approx at 4-5 am. Because previously russia denied that they are going to attack Ukraine all of the time, they were saying they perform only military training as they do it usually, but this time just closer to the borders. And since the word "pidor" may be used in a sentense to describe some treacherous/sneaky/deceptive act that person do when nobody expect it. So I think due to all off the russian lying and cowardly propaganda they spread regarding variety of things, the f-word is used to underline a russian way of thinking and their way to do things in a most disgusting way you can even imagine. Russians even love to call this special way of existence - "russkiy mir" that translates as "russian world" and they are very proud of that.
@rickytarr8585
@rickytarr8585 Ай бұрын
It literally just means f*ggot. That's it. But just like in English is isn't only used as a slur word and more commonly used as an insult to people who you don't like, regardless if they are homosexual or not. No need for the ancient history linguistic explanation that no one has time to read.
@D.Aniel89

Also "pidor" doesn't only mean sexuality of a person, but also we can call that someone who's sneaky, lying, person that is not to trust

Regarding what you discussed at 14:00 , that word kinda means the same as in the US, on the other hand it carries certain factual and cultural contexts which make it sound way different and not exactly takes into a scope/targets any LGBTQ community members, especially in America. In Ukrainian language slang some words have multiple meanings, one of which is usually the common and more direct and the other can be used in other contexts/meanings further away, just using "the foundation" of the word itself to ramp up the degree of expressed disrespect (instead of using Adverbs typically convenient for English language structure). The word you discussed sort of carries both sides of that: on the one hand there was a video going all over telegram groups in 2022(23)of an enemy soldier raping another in a tent, which may have been the original trigger to starting using the word as such a reference, on the other hand I always used this exact word to refer to a person of a hightly dislikable dodgy quality, who would loot your house, take your last money, scam you, take advantage of you in every possible way, ruin your plans or whatsoever, It's very diverse in it's applicability depending on the subject.

The found Russian radio is a Chinese (TYT brand) dual band VHF/UHF handheld radio. 136-174 MHz / 400-512 MHz. Off the shelf analog FM/digital voice (DMR vocoder) handheld radio geared towards the ham radio market. It’s basically a Baofeng with digital voice capability. The Russians were obviously using digital mode (it’s pretty obvious when it’s digital compared to FM, FM [analog] sounds much more “natural”]. So, in DMR mode, presuming they’re using 12.5 kHz channel spacing (and ignoring frequency allocations), there’s 2880 possible channels on the VHF band 136-174 MHz and 8960 possible channels on the UHF band. So…around 12,000 possible channels to work with. It sounds like a lot, but it’s not, see below: If they use 25 kHz spacing it’s half that, if they use 6.25 kHz spacing (which is very doable in DMR mode/in digital mode) it’s twice that in terms of possible channels…yes, you can use weird band plans if even digital voice is around 8 kHz wide so 6.25 kHz spacing is pushing it. Chances are they’re using 12.5 or 25 kHz channel spacing, as that is the standard in most parts of the world and is the standard in Russia. 25 kHz is default out of the box channel step on those TYT radios if I remember correctly. I’ve got several of them myself. However, with an inexpensive SDR and/or a decent scanner/receiver [like the AOR AR8200mkIII used for this purposes in Afghanistan - where the Taliban Icom radios were mostly VHF high band 136-174 MHz only) you can do LLVI (tactical voice intercept) and find the frequencies in use pretty quickly because you can see the entire spectrum that the radios can operate on at once.
@TealJosh
@TealJosh Ай бұрын
When I was researching my first HAM DMR handheld, TYT was one of the ones I was looking at, but thought it was far too low quality. Went with Anytone AT-D878UV. Digital modes easily support encryption. TYT and Anytone both have some capability. I guess what comes to my mind is, how often would encryption be enabled for people using them like this?
