Osato Igbinoba????? You must be a young'un so let me educate you little brother.....I was there in the 80's during the "Golden Era". Serious rappers never got respect unless they wrote their own material. That was center of being known as an Emcee. Busy Bee Starski used to borrow and bite rhymes. But when Kool Moe Dee murdered him at Harlem World in 1981 it changed the game. Everyone was expected to write their own stuff. Rakim was a revolutionary Emcee...his style changed hip hop for ever. It would have been preposterous to suggest that he use someone elses rap. There were some exceptions though: Bizmarkie used to spit stuff written by Big Daddy Kane. Today, it is different. Puffy had all kinds of "ghost writers". But, back then you didn't get respect from the hip hop community if people knew you were reciting some elses rhymes.
@bokay390010 жыл бұрын
Osato Igbinoba You are simply missing the point.....And why call me a pawn simply because you don't understand the era I came from? You are right...there is nothing wrong with ghost writing....most singers sing songs written by others. But we are talking about Golden Era hip hop mentality. You are out of the loop when it comes to authentic hip hop culture.

If people don’t believe serch all they need to do is ask Lyor Cohen. Things like this happen in the industry sometimes where an exec will tell someone to write something for someone and that artist doesn’t even know they’re doing it - like Lyor might have just been trying to inspire serch, he may have never actually intended for him to give the song to rakim, or even if he did like I said rakim may have had no idea about it, stuff like happens all the time especially on spec where a manager or someone might have an idea and they might try getting someone to buy a song from someone else but it just never goes through. It doesn’t mean serch is lying, people need to chill with that.
