3rd Bass is *CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED.* This was from my era. I used to rock the "Pete Nice" haircut...Still do from time to time! (Thank God I still got a full head of hair in my mid-40s!)...Even walked with a cane for a while... though it wasn't a gimmick (I took a slug to the thigh and got a titanium rod in my leg).
@jayski80822 жыл бұрын
It was from my era too..& I used to rock MC Serch's hair style not Pete's except my rear head was engraved w/"Home Plate" not "3rd Bass". Huha.. Just kiddin', but I definitely used to rock both The Cactus Album & Derelicts of Dialect all thru my high school yrs. For sure they were an early hip-hop group that got slept on..& *still do!* And they were on main TV shows like Arsenio types to constant rotation on top 3 FM stations across the nation into Europe & abroad. That was super difficult to do! On top of that they were white & got luv from almost every early East Coast rapper..they even got played(& I believe was on)Yo MTV Raps. I don't think ppl realize how hard it was to be just an aspiring hip-hop artist in those days, let alone as *a white 1!* That my friends deserves much more recognition than even what they get today from the masses & industry.

Had just moved from the Bronx to Houston when this album dropped. I bagged this joint as soon as I saw the Def Jam logo because at that time you knew it would be special on that label. It was only 3rd Bass, Biz Markie and De La Soul making music that was not only sonically dope and witty, but with comical elements a feature of the album. This was right before the west coast captured the rest of America and Houston was bumping Sir Mix-a-Lot and Eazy E's "Radio" (which blew my mind that they played hip hop like that on radio). The production and lyricism was ahead of it's time. Salute.

Their albums were classics and hype! I dug these cats and enjoyed their music and rhyming. DJ Richie Rich also had mad skills on the turntables! Their beats, samples, and grooves were Def, thanks to production by cats like Prince Paul and The Bomb Squad. These cats definitely made their mark in the hip-hop game! Pete Nice may have been the better rapper of the two though.

I grew up on 3rd Bass. I was about 2 and 3 years old when I heard Steppin to the A.M and Gas Face. As a matter of fact, The Cactus Album and Derelicts of Dialect are legendary Dope albums. Pop Goes the Weasel was humorous as fuck but also the 3rd Bass skits from Derelicts of Dialect album. These guys are legends of Rap. No offense to the Beastie Boys, who were the first White Rappers. RIP MCA. But 3rd Bass were the Greatest of all time legends and were Dope lyricists. I know several White Rappers that are Dope lyricists and also got mad style and skillz, for instance, from my hometown of Detroit Michigan Eminem and also Insane Clown Posse and Twiztid but also from the New York side, YBT, Necro, Non-Phixion, and Ill Bill, and from the West Coast Kottonmouth Kings and Crazy Town CXT. All of these White Rappers can flow a lyrical rhyme technique on the microphone and still got that 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 fa sho. Besides, Rap music in general it is not about race or color or ethnicity, if u got the soul within your heart, it doesn't matter, Rap music is a culture for everyone old skool and new skool, Rap music brought all races together as one nation. If u are a Hip-hop head and love to have fun with everybody, Rap music is where it's at. Rap music has many styles from traditional Rap to Rap-Rock, Rip-hop, and Rap-Metal and Horrorcore Rap. Mad love to MC Serch and the Prime Minister Pete Nice. I just wish that there was a 3rd Bass reunion and a new album, I'm just sayin'. 3rd Bass is still bumpin' every day in my turntables and boombox. But I also got mad Juggalo Family 🤡 love from ICP as well as a Juggalo. Awesome review of 3rd Bass Emcee Shan. Mad love. Peace.

Saw them live at Rugters University, at the Livingston student center in Piscataway, NJ. Must have been in early 1992. They were CLEARLY done with it, barely looking at each other and making as little effort as possible with their show. They obviously didn't want to be there. I dragged all my freshmen pals to see them, even though they never heard of 3rd Bass at the time. I caught lots of heat for the way they performed, that's for sure. Lol. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if it was their last show together the way it went down. Still, two great albums and possibly the pinnacle of the sample era.

I’ve had a 20+ year grudge against Prime Pete. Took my girl to a concert in Brooklyn and waited in the rain for an autograph because my girl wanted it. Search and Richie Rich gave us autographs and said hello. Petey poked his head out of the back door where we were the ONLY ones waiting. “ Hey Prime Minister, can my girl get an autograph?” He looked at us and said “ yeah, hold on”. He ducked back inside and after about 15 min we were told he left out another door. One 18 yr old kid and his girlfriend waiting in the freakin rain, Pete. You’re forever a douche for that.
