Georgia practically sold the place out on the road. Notre Dame fans are just kinda old and kinda stiff. Top school, top alumni network, but the place just feels a bit dead. Feels like the school from “Dead Poets Society” on Saturday afternoon. My gamecocks piece together 6 or 7 wins on a good year and the place is jumping no matter the opponent. Can this be fixed ? Or is this simply who nd is to some extent ?

Notre Dame needs to keep doing this. It was really cool. As much as they might not want to admit it, if they truly want to compete, they need to get into the 21st century. Recruits aren’t coming to Notre Dame just because it’s Notre Dame anymore. It’s a different world now and kids like this kind of stuff. It’s just too bad they still have such a lame fan base. If you compare this to the fan experiences at southern schools, it’s night and day. Even schools like Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin are more energetic than Notre Dame.

The enthusiasm for this (including in the student section) has waned significantly since the first time it was done.

@@kencyr9285 That’s another problem with Notre Dame. Being such a small school, the student section is very small, it’s hard for the students to rile the place up too. The stadium holds almost 78,000 people and there are only about 8,800 undergrads who go there. Alabama, on the other hand, has a stadium that seats 100,000 people and about 31,700 undergrads go there. It’s just an entirely different atmosphere. Alabama has way more students and a much more raucous crowd. Notre Dame has fewer students and the rest of the stadium usually consists of old fuddy duddies maybe reliving their college days from 40 years ago.

They should use some irish music for the lights show, like Flogging Molly's, that way they aren't just like every other school

I agree. The jump song got a lot of enthusiasm the first time we saw it. Second time, not so much.

@@kencyr9285 They have a great song to start the game off, which feels so uniquely ND. I feel like they just whiffed a little on this song choice.

I went to a game once, and never seen anyone standing only sitting and very quite. I was extremely disappointed.
@kencyr92852 жыл бұрын
Kinda depends on the game and where your seats are. Students stand through the whole game. But in general, you're right... fans are lower key than elsewhere. In my case, we have an open view right in front of us, so there's no reason to stand (for viewing) even when the people in front of us are standing. For the record, we were at a Notre Dame vs UCONN women's basketball game once, and my wife and I were asked to sit down by the ushers because people behind us complained. When I turned around to see who complained, it was Digger Phelps.
