With a tear or two shed for the Super 6, you'd pack up the WAVE and waive bye-bye to the UDO, I'm quite sure.

Thanks for this video! Still looking for the MPE synth companion to my Osmose, as I don't really like the internal sound engine. On paper the 3rd wave seems to be my best option so far - as it has enough voices along with an extensive mod matrix. And it sounds quite nice :) How are you feeling about the combination? Have you tried it?
@StarskyCarr5 ай бұрын
I've not tried it with the Osmose, that was on loan and unfortunately had to be returned to the owner :( ... The 3rd Wave is great though, a. very flexible synth that can do all the PPG Waldorf 8 bit stuff as well as hi fidelity wavetables, virtual analog (with analog filters) and now even sampling.
@mk1st11 ай бұрын
I’d imagine you couldn’t get as much (if any) MPE control on the keyboard version. Price wise it seems like a wash, so this setup would be a no brainer IMO.
@michaelgiordano245811 ай бұрын
The keyboard certainly doesn't have the mpe type controls that a Rise or Linnstrument (or whatever has). But the update does enable mpe functionality within the synth if you hook up an external mpe controller.

It’s basically just fine re-tuning your muscle memory for basic playing and then training up the modulation movements. The weird part is getting used to playing what amounts to a piano made out of non-sticky bread dough.

Im thinking of purchasing a 3rd wave but Id really like to see a video breaking down the differences between the desktop and full version before I make a decision. Obviously the controls are condensed for the desktop but ive yet to see anyone explain the exact differences and how it effects workflow. It would be really nice to save money by going with the desktop but im almost afraid not to go with the full version just on the chance that the workflow will be impaired and therefore wont be as inspiring and I wont get the most out of it.
@michaelgiordano245811 ай бұрын
As far as I'm aware, there's no difference between the desktop and keyboard edition, other than (as you said) the condensation of knobs/controllers.
@100haymaker11 ай бұрын
The main difference apart from the keys missing is each oscillator has its own controls on keyboard . On desktop there’s one set of controls but three buttons to chose which oscillator you control. The same with envelopes etc. smaller buttons and knobs. Seems to be a perfect compromise between form and menu diving. Let’s face it the keyboard looks sexier but I’ve been assured by Groove that the sound etc is exactly the same. I’m debating about the desktop too.
@michael999michael99911 ай бұрын
I haven’t tried the desktop but have the keyboard version, and so glad I do. I mess around with each oscillator a lot, so having distinct controls defo helps my workflow. My first synth (which I still have) is a P10 desktop - love the form factor but when I want to just pick up and play it, I need to faff around connecting another controller. Always slightly regretted not getting the keyboard version. With the 3w keyboard I simply switch it on and go - only 30 secs difference but I makes a big difference to me. Having everything at my fingertips - and being able to see where I’ve turned each of the oscillator nobs, really makes this a wonderful synth. The keybed is beautiful too. Go keyboard if you have the space and funds mate.

@@100haymaker At the pricepoint they’re asking for, it might just be best to get an MPE controller with the desktop module

@@futurelustmedia I got mine yesterday. It’s one of the easiest synths that I’ve ever used. Haven’t even read the manual yet and know 90% of it. Brilliant VA engine and with the wavetables of Prophet VS that Starsky Carr sent them it’s even better. Definitely have no worries about ease of use of the desktop.👍

I really want to love this synth but there's something in the sound I don't gel with. I've heard a lot of patches and everything sounds a bit bloated or nasal to me, as if the filters only produce one kind of tone. Maybe I'm just not used to hearing resonant poly patches with bass compensation or something. I'd love to see it sound-matched with other synths so I can tell if I'm hearing things...

@marzzz1 @@michael999michael999 I should give it a chance in person but it ought to come across in a video demo. You can't make a bad track and then tell people that they had to be there with the synth in the studio. But the instrument is pleasing a lot of people, so well done to the team!

It has analog filters so comparisons with fully digital synths will always be less expensive.
@AudioLomtik10 ай бұрын
@@EBMZEQUENZER For me it's totally about the sound. I have multiple VA synths... I passed on the Kyra because of the horrible menu diving, it's an abandoned product for a reason. The sound of the 3rd wave hits the ears in a way that synths with digital filters simply cannot. The 3rd Wave has a digital 2 pole filter which is as high quality as any other digital filter but there is a definite difference in sonic quality....And then, it's not only a VA engine synth it is a wavetable synth that lets you make and mangle your own wavetables with ease. Until you've worked with one it's easy to overlook all of the versatility that's in this box. I've heard the 3rd Wave accurately emulate many digital and analog synths, while the Kyra alway seemingly has that 90's VA Trance/EDM/Virus sound. Not that that's a bad sound, but it's all it can do. 3rd Wave is much more. As Starsky said, analog VCF and VCA synths like this simply cost more, as does the more immediate interface.
