Finland also just made the biggest cruising ship in the world: Icon of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) and two others's will follow. There are many ships build to them earlier too so our dock industry is top notch!

My grandmom was born 1897, she had a long life 96 yrs. When she was born, Finland was one of the poorest countries in Europe. Women got right to vote 1906, first in Europe, third world wide. People in Finlan have been equally treated centuries and we have had strong women in Finland. I’m sure this is one of reasons behind this developing of Finland. Year 1900 there was only 2.6 million mostly very poor inhabitants in Finland. The first maternity package took place in 1938.

Baby box is free, you can either choose it or 170€ in cash, but when calculated in retail prices, the baby box is worth like 250-300€ so taking the box makes more sense.

... but after a couple of children, you may prefer to take the money, since you'll have multiple couples of same items and more than enough of baby clothing for a year... 🫣😂

The retail price of the contents is irrelevant and some of the things aren't necessary. It's good for the first kid but unless you want the winter coverall in another pattern (the only item that has any potential second hand value) you should go for the money with later kids.

Many of the inventions were not because we were developed or rich. Baby box was created because many were poor, and kids and mothers were dying from preventable natal care they were not receiving. It was developed during the second world war. You can get the box if you get regular checkups during the pregnancy. The box as a crib is because babies were dying because they didn't have an own bed and parents accidentally rolled over them in their sleep. Finland was poor and agricultural during and after the wars. We needed to pay a lot of reparations to the Soviets. There were many kids born after this period and the government put a lot of effort into education and healthcare.

I'm SUPER proud of the fact my grandpa was in the Nokia design team that became experts in cable making machinery! He even got an award for his efforts in the field, and went on work trips all over the world to lend his expertise in the 80's and 90's. Soooo you're welcome, world, my awesome grandpa made your hi-tech today possible in his own way.

Xyltyol is a great sweetener. It is also a VERY effective laxative and it's VERY easy to accidentally use too much. Great sugar replacement, be super careful if you use it. You might be in the situation of having to stay at home and sleep in your bath and it works VERY quickly too.

You have to remember that like 100 ago Finland was dirty poor third world country... Like about poorest of European countries etc Also per capita most terrorist attakcs as we did have like a ton of in fighting... But when Soviets atttacked us in 1939 we became one and fought our ancient enemy.... There are beefs like England vs France, thought they are allies now and then there are grudges like Finns vs Russians...

Well, not poor like you say, but poor in a way "being part of Russian empire because Russia took parts of Sweden, the part currently known as Finland." Although Finland had autonomy under Russian rule, Finland was not poor. In 1929, 12 years after becoming independent, Finland was richer than Spain, Greece, Portugal.. In 1913, despite being part of Russian Empire, Grand duchy of Finland was richer than Norway. ¨ In 1900 Finland was 20th richest country per GDP in the world.
