Roy Jones Jr lost to Antonio Tarver in all three fights, (the first one a controversial win for Roy), because of Tarver's style not Roy's weight drain. Tarver's height, southpaw stance, shell defense and counter punching forced Roy to become the lead aggressor, which is something Roy never did, if you followed Roy previous fights Roy was always the counter puncher and with his tremendous speed would knock guys out while countering them, but because most people under-rate Tarvers defense and countering ability, they fail to realize Tarver style is what beat Roy Jones. Roy was more Athletic with a much flashier style but Tarver was bigger and more technical.

People can use the excuse that Roy was weight drained (we would really never know how much of a role that played). However we cannot use Tarvers size because Hopkins beat Tarver fairly easily. I think weight, psychology, age (aged overnight) and fight style, all played a part in Roy's 2 losses to Tarver.

Roy’s problem was he was weight drained. He lost too much muscle mass messed his body up coming all the way from heavyweight to light heavy. They should have fought at heavyweight of even cruiser. It’d have been interesting. I’m not saying Roy would have beaten him, cos Tarver was a bigger dude than Roy naturally but whether he’d have been able to handle the weight and Roy at the same time is another thing. Roy lost all punch resistance and Tarver was a bigger dude than him anyway.

Roy got knocked out and then …was never the same Not because of weight xD the second fight proved this in the “ Got any excuses tonight Roy?? “ fight. Roy finally fought someone who got he’s number that knew he’s style from the amateurs and had the size and skill to compete with him because Roy always Beat guys with Raw Physical talent. They fought 3 times all those fights Roy got Hurt every time Tarver Landed Flush and that was the difference. Tarver had the Power. but he had the delivery system to get it to the Target. Roy fought like he always fought in those fights with pure athleticism and speed still looking like the great RJJ but he could never out muscle or out skill Tarver because Antonio was a very technical Boxer Puncher with a real good Jab straight Left that threw great combinations to the head and body. Love RJJ but Tarver is the better fighter out the two that’s just the facts. Sometimes You have guys that have your number and you can never beat them no matter how good you are.
