"Come back to me" every time Emma faces losing someone her true feelings come out. She cares about Hook more than she's willing to admit. I love that Emma didn't blame Killian for losing her magic. She made the choice to save him at the risk of losing her powers and defeating Zelena. Captain Swan at its best

I loved this full scene from beginning to end I loved seeing the way Emma was cradling his face , the way she kept saying come back , so softly and quietly , vulnerably almost terrified as if she was finally admitting to herself on some level she cant lose him ... The way she was looking at Hook at the end it was such a look of love and relief ... I felt like her having to save him forced her admit to herself her feelings for Killian , that she cant lose another person she loves and that includes him ... I felt like this was the moment where Emma Swan was finally like I cant hide from the truth any longer I am falling in love with this man ...

Oh that drowning scene! I can live for the next week on that scene alone! As I've said before, our actions in times of fear and stress show our true colors. Emma can snark at Killian all she wants, but she PANICKED with it looked like she was going to lose him. The absolute desperation in her voice when she was shaking him and trying to get him to wake up, said everything about how she really feels about him (Incidentally, I know virtually nothing about medicine, but I'm pretty sure shaking someone is not the preferred method of reviving a drowning victim :-p). That "Killian, come back to me!" was amazing. For one thing, it harkens back to season 1 when Mary Margaret said the same thing to David when she was giving him mouth to mouth (yay! TL parallel!). For another thing, everyone Emma loves leaves her (whether through their own volition or through death), she couldn't stand to lose Killian too...and HE CAME BACK TO HER. He's ALWAYS come back to/for her. He's always been there beside her. She desperately wants to believe he always will be, but she's running so scared she can hardly stand it. And the way she touches him! It's like she simply can't bring herself to stop. Emma has never struck me as a touchy-feely person. It's only with Henry (her platonic TL) that she shows physical affection. Because of that, I think the fact that Emma continued stroking Hook's face, and holding onto his chest really say a lot about her state of mind. Finally, I LOVE that the first thought Killian has when he wakes up is for HER. He's horrified that she lost her magic because of him. He's afraid he put her in danger now that she's not protected by her magic Back at the hospital, Emma matter of factly states that she lost her magic. She doesn't blame Killian, even though his face clearly shows that he feels guilt. I think this is her realizing and recognizing that Hook was not at fault.

True love's kiss between Emma saving Hook- YES!!! I do appreciate Emma sticking up for Hook when Regina asked how she lost her magic and she didn't answer. Hook was looking a little sad behind her. She was trying to protect him.

Another note because this merits its own comment: as someone who simply loves Emma's gentle threading of her fingers of the back of Killian's head when they're alone/together (the "move in with me" scene is the one that always comes to mind, she's just mindlessly doing it there before she turns to him), I love that the first time she did it was here. She's freaking out but she's still touching his hair like she'll eventually do when she's relaxed and happy :)

have anyone noticed that she was stroking his face or head when he woke up. Oh, and that she screamed, " Come back to me!", Mary Margaret said the exact words when she did C.P.R. for David. Does this connection mean true love? My suggestion, Yes!

Somehow, the more I look at this scene, the more I feel like Rumple did more than simple holding Hook under water for a bit and there's a kind of enchantment or something that Emma knows/feels/guesses she can't break with regular CPR anyways, hence going for the kiss she knows they expect of her. At least, that makes more sense to me.

Okay but seriously, this must have been a TLK. The parallels to the True Love's Tackle in season 5 are so obvious! Emma picked him. Killian chose her. She CHOSE Killian's life over magic/herself (like she chose to save him and not her heart), and he CHOSE her safety and magic over his own life as he was clearly horrified she didn't just let him die (just as he was dying in the fire and still called out to her to get her heart as I'm 100% certain he would have done here if he had the time). It's canonly proof that True Love is when a couple chooses each other above themselves, and this is EXACTLY what happens here. Side note: I LOVE how years later Killian was still so surprised to see that Emma chose him. She has done it ever since this episode, but he was so used to not being loved for so long- not being WORTHY of love for so long. The poor broken man. Also, if you need any more proof: If this curse wasn't immediately broken, how come Emma gets her magic back? Zelena is not dead at all, she should still very much have Emma's magic. Unless Emma's magic isn't gone, she just convinced herself it is thanks to this excuse. As we see in 3A with Tinkerbell and Neverland (heck, season 1 with Emma not seeing Pinocchio's wooden leg!), belief is very powerful for magic to occur, just as much as emotions. Emotions direct your magic but magic only happens if you BELIEVE you can do it. Emma has a very convenient excuse to convince herself it doesn't anymore, even if consciously she wouldn't want to harm her baby brother in any way. Secondly, this is a VERY clear call back to Snowing in 1.03, downright to the drowning guy + "come back to me" + kiss. That was very much implied to be a LWM true love's kiss. And lastly, the *white* pulse of light literally only appears here and when Killian comes back from literal death to Emma, something that the rule of the Ambrosia Tree room very clearly states is an honor bestowed only to people who can prove their hearts are filled with true love. (It's also an awesome callback to "come back to me" when Emma's alone in the graveyard even if she doesn't say it out loud. The white pulse of energy is a visual reminder of this moment). ... sigh, I told myself I wasn't gonna wall this clip about these thoughts of mine but it's been years and my resolve is only so strong. Sorry not sorry |D

_Chest Compressions_ dear Emma! ;D Though, on count of the Kiss which was definably _not_ CPR, Maybe that was part of Zelena's magic. She kisses him,He awakens. Considering water was a physical medium, it seems incongruent, But that does offer a explanation for the lovely demonstration of " _CPR_ "

I think part of the reason is to help with the illusion of the hook. Y'know, to help make it seem like his arm is proportionate. Colin's just holding the hook, but it has to look like his hand was actually cut off at the wrist, and wardrobe can be clever with helping that illusion! (I also could be entirely wrong, this is just my theory. xD)

sorry for being a party killer, but that isn't her realizing she can't live without him, this is her being the only one around who can save a life. yes, she cares about him, but this is not the move of a loving person, this is being a person who "knows" what to do (hope nobody learns from TV shows how to do CPR...;-)) anyway, the love story will go on I guess...so don't let me ruin everything...

i kind of agree. Emma has a saving nature. She does save anyone and I hope to God if anyone was in this situation (of someone drowning to death) they would perform CPR. lol. But, however, the fact she says come back to me and she her facial expressions show more than just a normal person trying to save someone. The writers/producers would have not created this scene or even put it in if it didnt mean anything...also this is a parallel to snow and charming from the first season and also a parallel to the beginning of the season when Emma drowned and Hook was relieved to her alive again.

Y'know I still stand by the theory that this here was a true love's kiss. We've seen Emma get her magic back but not be able to use it because of her denial, until she accepted that she loves her parents, so why couldn't it have happened sooner? Besides, Zelena's "death" is proof that magic, if taken from someone, needs to be stored somwhere (like a gemstone that Zelena has). If Emma's magic was gone it'd have to be bound to SOMETHING, it wouldn't just be floating away untethered. (Technically the series breaks its own canon in s4-5 when Zelena still has her magic, but as far as s3 is concerned that's the canon. Zelena would take the gemstone necklace from the oz witches and her magic would be bound to it). To me the evaporation effect is the curse attempting to take hold and the flash of light (white and not rainbow cause y'know white is basically a super rainbow and she's the savior so extra powerful magic!) is the TLK blocking the effect. We've only ever seen this circular burst of magic when a true love's kiss happens, it's very strange to have this be the only exception, especially if there IS a kiss involved, directly parallels the TLK Mary Margaret gave David in early season 1 with the "come back to me" whisper, AND they have the effect of the magic "leaving" Emma, there's no need to spend the animation budget on the circle of light. Forever a headcanon but y'know it's canon in my heart :'D

I would also like to add that season 5 proves that True Love is a choice, not someone you're destined to be with from the start. It's about loving to the point of sacrifice, putting the other first. We see it here. Hook sacrificed his life denying Zelena the kiss, despite her threats. His horror at Emma's choice to save him clearly shows that if he could have spoken he would have told her to keep her magic at his expense. And ofc, Emma chose to save him at the expense of her magic. Much like in the Underworld, when he's burning up but tells her to save herself/her heart but she chooses to save him. I believe I commented that in that specific scene in Firebird as well but it bears saying here bc I will go down with this headcanon. (Also yes this is 3 months after my original comment, it's 2020 and I'm quarantined doing a series rewatch and STILL up to my neck in OUAT. Oops?)

Y'know, if the curse had happened as it was intended, Emma shouldn't have been able to get her magic back in the finale at all... because Zelena never died (so the curse couldnt have been broken via its caster's death). Even if some of it was released from the pendant (likely bc the magic was already in effect), the curse would still be happening because thats literally how the show's lore is meant to go. Curses are broken when the caster dies or a True Love's Kiss happens. It doesnt escape me that the arc of light goes off immediately as she kisses him... my guess is that it IS a true love's kiss (literally the only other thing that can break a curse), and Emma simultaneously lost and regained her magic (basically cancelling any spells/barriers she might have put up beforehand because of this "reboot" in her magic). It doesnt escape me that its literally the same arc of light at the end of s6... come on guys, the curse, the nearly drowning, the "come back to me" + CPR turned kiss is a VERY OBVIOUS callback to Snow Falls (1.03) in which Snow wakes David after he escapes from the hospital and collapses near the T(r)oll Bridge... and THAT was a TLK. (In a much more angsty side note, this IS where the "Killian almost/indeed dies in Emma's arms" trend starts and I Dont Like It :c ) (Side-side note, I freaking love how this shows how /touchy/ Emma is even before they date officially. She cant help but smooth her fingers over the back of his head in a quick lil caress, something she kinda always does with him. She loves playing with the hair at the back of his head, its adorable)

It's one of those things in a show that you have to go with to not lose the illusion of believable entertainment. But...in real life you don't need to do mouth to mouth because what is really important is chest compressions and keeping a rhythm of those compressions - that is true CPR. So yeah she could have kept her magic and saved Hook. Lol. 🤣 Still like the scene but you have to suspend believability here because well...it's a Disney inspired show.
