I would also recommend if you've never seen the 1840 Tithe Map's series which were digitised by Staffordshire archive service over last summer 2020. The maps arent the most handy to work and dont come with built in side by side viewers. But I have noticed some gems on it including that the Gilpins Arm originally extended slightly further into Pelsall than it is shown as doing on any NLS maps I have seen! They can be found here www.search.staffspasttrack.org.uk/search.aspx?SearchType=2&PageIndex=1&ThemeID=774

Another cracking video Andy. I often refer to the National Library of Scotland's Maps. They are excellent quality and I've always loved looking at maps, especially really old ones. I still fish the Cannock Extension and the Wyrley & Essington canals. it's kind of like fishing back into history. :-) Thanks Andy, hope you get a good summers cruising.

Loving your work Andy I find all your video's fascinating. I've walked many of the BCN towpaths some of which were done prior to watching your video's. It looks like I may have to revisit just as soon as we're allowed out. I'm fairly sure I saw you cruising along the New Line near Coseley a couple of years ago. I seem to recognise the boat and butty from your pictures. I try to write up on my walks for my Facebook page but have been a bit negligent with copy these - despite lockdown. I've used some of the resources you mention above especially The Other Sixty Miles and the Richard Dean map. Absolutely superb maps that add interest to my walks. Keep up the good work.

Once again many thanks Andy; I have just had a quick browse at my collection of Canal/BCN reference and I have a 2nd Edition 1994 copy of the Richard Dean Birmingham Canals map which is printed on one side! I too have a couple of the Godfrey OS Maps, one for West Bromwich (North) 1885 that gives a good overview of the Ridgeacre, Dartmouth, Halford and Jesson branches. Another useful reference book is Canal Walks Midlands by Ray Quinlan although that one explores further afield than the BCN, finally there is available an excellent Collins Inland Waterways Map of Great Britain which covers all existing navigable waterways. I must get a copy of "The Lost 60 Miles" thanks again.

Thank you Andy, it's great that you are happy to share your research material. Just to make you and other hunters aware, the other sixty miles is available at my local bookshop! Go to www.audlemmill.co.uk they have a fantastic range of new and secondhand books and also provide an online service. This is my favourite place in Cheshire and I would urge you and your army of viewers to check it out, when the lifting of restrictions allow of course! Looking forward to the next episode.

Exelently informative, as always,I love the canal hunter videos. I wish I could rent a boat and retrace your journeys, sadly my dog hated the boating holiday i took him on a couple of years ago, the engine noise unsettled him, otherwise I would! Both my previous dogs loved boating not him sadly.
