That room you built it pretty neat! I've been assembling mine in my basement and it gets an engine bag that it taped shut whenever I'm not working on it. Very good advise about cleaning everything and then white gloving it. It's amazing how something will look clean and then you take brake cleaner to it and the white rag comes out dirty.

@Tyler Hawk Thank you! When you worked at the Honda plant how do they do the final cleaning before assembly? I know Chrysler Pentastar engines have issues due to sand casting the block/ heads and leftover sand causing cooling system and head gasket problems.

I have a 138k 4.6 2 valve police interceptor why I'm I starting to have problems with my timing tension is so early oil is changed every 4,000 miles full synthetic with motorcraft filter you can hear the tick at startup and then goes away should I be concerned or I still have time is it worth putting the money into it thank you

It’s worth upgrading. If the tensioner is failing it can jump time and lock up the engine. On my 4V it started making noise around 110k miles.

Thank you for watching. I saw on another channel a guy that spent so much effort building his 4.6. After he had a rod knock on the dyno he pulled all the bearings and found one that needed to be re-torqued. But he also noticed weird scratches on all of them. A dirty engine can ruin the bearings that quick and I felt so bad for the guy. A lot of money and time goes into putting them together...

@@MikesGarageRoute66 Hi Mike. I just had my Terminator engine rebuilt and I have an important question that I want your opinion on for the break in procedure... Do you recommend engine braking during the early miles of the new engine? I've heard opinions going both ways from supposed experts and I'm unsure what to do. My engine only has about 25 miles on it so I need to get this figured out. I appreciate your input Mike!
@MikesGarageRoute66
@MikesGarageRoute66 Жыл бұрын
@@tomkjr1 My recommendation would be varying between 1/3 and 2/3 load with the occasional engine braking. Engine breaking puts zero load on the rings but helps bring fresh oil past the oil ring to the top two rings to remove debris. The most important thing is vary your speed, no cruise control and don’t let it idle. That’s the worst thing you can do. Also change your oil at 25 miles, then again at 250, 1000, then every 3000. You want to keep removing any debris out of the engine as they creates additional wear on all internal parts. At 1000 to 1500 miles it is fully broken in. But the first 100 miles is the most important.
@tomkjr1
@tomkjr1 Жыл бұрын
@@MikesGarageRoute66 Also... up to the 1000 mile mark, I keep using the standard break in non-synthetic oil, right?

I have an oil leak on my 1997 f150 with the 4.6L .. pass rear head to block leaking , Ford diagnosed as I could not see back there.. Diagnosis, head gasket OR rusted out block.. It gets better, My mechanic went over the entire truck before he replaced the exhaust manifolds. Was not long after that it started leaking Oil. If the leak had started before the manifolds were replaced I would have been able to decide. Could have done the top end and the manifolds would have been cake on the bench .. Anyway talk about bad luck..Bunch of money wasted ... Dumped in a can of Lucas stop oil and hoping.. I should mention, it drips right on the exhaust pipe :) , Icing on the cake !!!

Lucas will not fix your problems. It will be a temporary bandaid and may accelerate areas where you never had leaks. I was a ford Stars/PTS technician as well as a master auto tech of 6 years. You are better off stopping the leak before it's a complete loss of oil pressure in operation.
