Thank you for the video! I did the exact same thing. I either ordered the wrong part or was sent the wrong part. At first I though it was the camshaft position sensor causing the misfire. Decided to check the gear on a whim, sure enough, it didn't match the original part. I should have checked it before installing it. My buddy said he heard we could change it out using the method you described, but had not tried it himself. Good to see it can really be done. Did a complete rebuild on the motor and it's in the jeep, so I really don't want to remove the balancer and timing cover again!

Good job maybe drill a hole in tie a rope so you don’t drop it in the engine. You’re not an idiot at least you had the Cahones to try. Most people would be scared to death to do this. Thank you for making the video

Cool i just did a head swap on a 3.7l got p0016. Nice to know its just the valve covers coming off to tweak timing 👌 Edit: Used a half roll of electrical tape and vice grips, no debris and the tape made the perfect wedge

Changing the head gasket on a '03 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 , was looking for a way to remove the head without taking the timing cover off.. i'll give this a try but i'll zip tie the gear to the chain as well so it doesn't move. Thank you!

Can I use the 4.6 timing wedge tool also to wedge it between the chain and tensioners to remove the cam sprocket bolt and cam sprocket?? Looks like it would be a similar process by design. Replacing driver left cylinder head gasket, 2001 Jeep 4.7

I have a question. My V8 4.7 was rebuilt. And it keeps stalling after 2 minutes of being on. Was this the indication that led you to believe the wrong timing wheel was installed?

Be pretty nice if we could see the front But you still never said if I have to turn the cam to get number one up or how to time it. That's Handy how you did that but still don't know if I have to bring number one piston up just leave it the same put new gear on wouldn't I be in the same spot I was when I started

How did you get the gear bolt off? You jump past that

Where did you insert the wedge? Between the chain? Or one side of the wood on the inside of the head/ engine block and the other side on the inside of the chain?.?

@@jtj250 Was your wedge making contact with let's say the upper and lower part of the chain? Like wedging the chain from the inside out? Or was the wedge making contact with the inside of the upper part of the chain and pushing only on that tensioner while the bottom of the wedge was pushing on the solid metal ?

I had the engine rebuilt they put the wrong reluctor wheel on it I know how to take off the old one but how would I mark it on the new one any suggestions anyone please

Rotate the system until the v8 mark lines up with the dot on the chain. Remove and just make sure to line the marks up on the new wheel. Or if you don't want to spin the crank a bunch of times... just count how many teeth away the two marks are before removal and install the new wheel with the marks the same amount of teeth away in the same direction. The first way I described is the best. Less room for error.
