4-alarm fire in Milwaukee on July 19, 2019

The Milwaukee Fire Department battled a 4th alarm fire at Aguilar's Welding on West National Avenue near South 12th Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Friday, July 19, 2019. Plumes of smoke were visible from the Marquette Interchange. Extreme heat and hazardous building contents were making it hard for firefighters to extinguish the fire. Not to sound critical, but wasn't the guy operating the deck gun, and that crew on that apparatus fir that matter, on air? The smoke was rolling out and got worse when the water helped ventilate. With the increases in cancer, you'd figure they'd be more cautious. Only other question, wouldn't you want to park that ring Neva little farther away from the building since the deck gun has such good pressure and could still do that job? I mean if you gave a flashover or a back draft, the right amount of force could cause severe damage to the engine and hurt the crew.

That engine/deck gun was parked right next to the fire structure. A flashback or collapse would have put those fire members in danger. Better to park further out, on the other side of the median.

Not trying to sound critical, but why isn't the deck gun operator, and that whole crew for that matter on air? With the increases in cancer rates and the increasing smoke, huge danger of toxic exposures. Also, would you really want the engine that close to the building? The deck gun has such good pressure that it could still be as effective. A flashover or back draft could cause serious damage to the engine and severe injury to the crew.
