Still haunted all these years by the Genesis version of Batman Forever. That game almost broke my soul. I've never played a game when I was a kid that had as bad controls as Batman Forever did. Ranks very high in my top 10 worst games of all time.

One of the problems with Alien 3 is that the buttons are backwards. It uses B for jump, and A for attack. NES platformers are supposed to use the opposite. A for jump, B for attack. I don't know why Nintendo approved of games with backwards buttons.

That Daffy Duck game looked extremely frustrating. The level design alone would give me a headache with how disorienting it looks. And yeah, the Batman game dates itself to another time with the way it looks and plays. The first two games had nice graphics - shame they don't play very well. Great video and nice costume! The thumbnail reference to an iconic album cover of the '90s was greatly appreciated 😁

what i've always found "funny" with probe is how you'd never know if a game would be any good before you'd actually play it. it was a rollercoaster, you could go from daffy duck and the hurricanes to judge dredd and the mortal kombat ports... (and they'd really hit their stide on the n64 with re-volt, extreme-g and forsaken). it was a good studio, but squeezed to hell by acclaim, forcing them to churn mutiple games a year (a bit like iguana, of turok fame and pirates of dark waters infamy)

Probe would go on to make Extreme-G 1 and 2 for N64. Those were very fun futuristic racing games. Extreme-G 2 had amazing lighting effects with the expansion pack. So they did get much better at making games. Then Acklaim died. Love the nurse cosplay and Halloween decorations Erin!

Erin, I had both Batman Forever and the Pagemaster on Sega Genesis. I didn't hate the Pagemaster movie as a kid and I actually looked forward to playing the game. Batman Forever and the Pagemaster were some of the first games I had on Sega Genesis back when I got it (around 1996?) As a kid I found Pagemaster to be frustrating and I could never beat it. I remember my friend came over to play Sega Genesis and we both played Pagemaster. Also, that same Christmas that I got a Sega Genesis I also got a Virtual Boy. Even if the games and/or system wasn't that great it was a Christmas I would never forget.

Batman Forever is truly one of the most difficult to control games of all time. I believe they did just directly using the Mortal Kombat II engine, at least for the SNES version, I imagine it was the same for Genesis. You put it best, it really is just exhausting to play 😂

I have not played Batman Forever in well ... forever but I liked that game once I figured out controls. You are right about the grappling hook. It makes zero sense but once you get used to gameplay, it can be quite enjoyable, especially with all the secrets hunting etc.

Probe had some midway and early Mortal Kombat devs in the team, that's probably why batman plays like early MK, Primal Rage was created by that team, and to this day it is still better animated than early Mortal Kombat and i will die on that hill, and it's one of the hardest games to learn due to the way they implemented negative edge, and it's also a game i still love to play to this day and learned to play in a billion different ways

Probe had a horrible reputation on the ZX Spectrum and Commodore Amiga so it's not surprising that they continued that proud legacy on the 16-bit consoles. I remember renting the Alien 3 game on SNES and thinking it wasn't bad for a licensed game, so bought the Judge Dredd game (also Probe, also SNES) expecting it to be roughly the same standard ... and I guess, in a way, it _was_ - because it was almost exactly the _same_ damn game, basically a re-skin of Alien 3. You could laugh that kind of thing off with an 8-bit computer game that only cost 7 bucks on cassette, but it was a lot less amusing when you'd spend 50 British bucks on a SNES cartridge.

The only game of these 4 I've played is Alien 3 on the NES. I rented it when I was a kid and was super disappointed. I've been an Aliens fan since I was a little kid and a bad Aliens game seemed like a crime. I rode my bike back up to the Video store and exchanged it for a different game lol Super fun video as always 🙂

Batman Forever on SNES was difficult as hell. To this day, I have never beaten it, legitimately. I think the furthest I made it was Wayne Manor. I used a level skip code to get to Claw Island, and a code for maximum lives, but even that was still pretty difficult. Also, trying to figure out the weapons you unlock when collecting blue prints was a chore and a half to figure out. It's too bad, because I hoped it would have been a good game. Let's not even touch the Gameboy port. I never made it out of the first room of the first level to this day.

Personally, I thought that Alien 3 on the NES was less frustrating than the Sega Genesis version. But the SNES version is the best version imho. Probe would use that SNES Alien 3 game engine twice more with Judge Dredd and Stargate, which were both good as well. The definitive version of Batman Forever was the PC port. I’ve seen videos of it and I really want to try it.

Probe did all the versions of Alien3. And each one was different. Some looked similar but had different levels. One of my favorite games is Alien3 on SNES. I believe it is unique amongst the Probe Alien3 games in look and game play. It can be hard though. Sound was amazing. It graphics looked more like the movie, I'd call them more "realistic" for what you could do at the time graphics wise. All the other versions looked hand drawn with pixels and I don't understand why they didn't duplicate the Snes better look on the other consoles. Why was SNES done so different graphics and gameplay wise. In it you got missions which could be fix pipes, save prisoners, kill aliens, ect. It wasn't just a "find prisoners in this level" like the others. It also had pictures from the movie, and I dunno if the other versions even did that.
