Having watched this video I purchased a pair of From the First harness boots, they exceeded my expectations, quality, craftsmanship and materials are first class. I now own 8 pairs of From the First boots, they fit true to size and the sizing of each pair is consistent. I use cedar shoe trees to maintain their shape. These boots are comfy from the off and can be worn from early morning to late evening without any issues, and covering many miles in between.

My 2019 Wyatts are stitched. Seems like they improved them. I also don’t understand why everyone loves the exposed zipper. It doesn’t look bad in my opinion but the new one is way cleaner

Brandon Key I can see how that thin piece of leather which hides the zipper can become flimsy in time. Don’t know if some manufacturers can or if they fold that leather piece on itself but I can see how that way it might strengthen that piece of leather and prevent it from withering.

Coming from experience, I just wanted to share my opinion and thoughts for those who are looking to purchase any "Harness Style" boots in the near future @DevanOnDeck has listed some amazing reasons why FROM THE FIRST is a good option but I feel like there are a few points missing. I own about 5 pairs of SLP Wyatts (2 Harnesses, 1 Jodphur, 2 Chelseas) all size 40s. I'm a 42 in sneakers 41 in dress shoes and I sized down to a 40 in all my SLPs. I was gifted a pair of FROM THE FIRST Enzos also in a sz 40 and 41 (girlfriend was kind to let me choose the sizing since I'm usually between the two). Here is my experience with the pieces. FIT - The SLPs fit well. Naturally since I'm a 41 and went with a 40 the toebox area is a bit tight, this isn't a huge concern unless I'm looking to walk a lot. The FTF Enzos however have a horrible fit compared to the SLPs. The shaft isn't slim but absurdly skinny (skinnier than the Hedi era of SLP boots). They're are made for people with very small ankles, and the odd part of it is is that the toebox area is VERY roomy, its good for people with "wide feet" but the heel and ankle is soo tight that you won't be able to get these boots on without damaging the leather. QUALITY OF MATERIALS - SLP is SLP, there is nothing to really comment. FTF however claims to use the same materials but the calfskin used feels significantly cheaper. Right out of the box, the Enzos already had some creasing, and loose grain on both boots sizes 40 and 41 (this is without even trying on the boot). The SLPs have a soft supple look and feel to the calfskin, while the Enzos didn't even feel like real leather. The smell and sheen on the Enzos gave off a fake leather or pleather type of feel. The stacked heel was advertised as 40mm but when measured, it came to about 36mm on the sz 40s, and 44mm on the 41s. Thats a huge discrepancy that you won't find on the SLPs regardless of sizing. DETAILS - Again SLP is SLP, nothing to really say, expect a high end piece. FTF Enzos carries some great design cues (polished hardware, large exposed side zipper). This is the only real strength the FTF boots have. Design wise, Joshua @FROMTHEFIRST has it right. He's marketing to the Hedi heads that loved the FW13 line of SLP and since they don't make those boots anymore, its a great way to buy into the design without paying for a used pair of shoes. FINAL THOUGHTS - For those who are looking to get a Harness Style boot and is holding back on getting a pair of Wyatts, wait for a sale. SSENSE and Farfetch always has markdowns and they'll take off taxes and duties. You can find Wyatts for anywhere between $600-$800 during sale season. FROMTHEFIRST doesn't carry the same sense of quality or luxury that the SLPs do and even at their reduced price of $500-$600 you're paying taxes shipping and customs which will bring you to about the same price. My opinion FROMTHEFIRST offers a good alternative, but they're not worth their price tag, if they were $300-400 I'd say they'd be a decent buy but for the same price you can get a real pair of Saint Laurents.
@fromthefirst5 жыл бұрын
Hey @fatalkill101, Great to hear that your girlfriend gifted you a couple pairs of our boots, I wish we could all have people like that in our lives ;) But I’m sorry to hear that you’re less than happy with a few things, but I’ll respond to some of your points, hopefully they’ll help or shed some light on things for yourself or others. Fit - Yes, we usually recommend people stay true to their SLP size, or to their dress shoe size. People rarely have issues with our shafts, they’re normally slim but without being too skinny, it’s something we researched and worked very very hard on to perfect. Obviously everyone’s feet and ankles are different, so I can’t really comment on how they fit yourself without any pics. We actually modelled our ‘fit’ on the FW13 pairs from Saint Laurent, so if anyone’s a fan of those, then they should be cool with our boots. But please rest assured you won’t damage the leather getting these boots on. Sometimes it helps to use a shoe horn for the first few times, until the boots have time to mould to your foot and ankle. Quality - I can’t say I agree with you at all on this. I can categorically say we’ve never had anyone say our leather feels cheap or that it gives off a fake leather or pleather type of feel. Quite the opposite, it’s normally something customers praise us on, as we use really high grade skins and we’re very selective with what parts we do and don’t use when making our boots. All our boots now have a 40mm heel, but this depends on where you choose to measure, as it’ll obviously be lower on the side nearer the front as opposed to measuring the rear. Details - We’re glad to hear you were happy with everything here, we put a lot of time and effort into our designs. It’s probably worth noting here that Saint Laurent is owned by Kering, a billion dollar company and with that comes a lot of benefits like economies of scale. Meaning that they’ll be paying much less for all of the raw materials, labour etc. and making a much higher profit margin. We’re not here to take on the big brands, we’re just happy doing our own thing, making what we love to wear and we hope people enjoy what we do. Taxes - So most of our customers are either from the UK, EU or the US where you won’t have to pay any additional customs or taxes (under $800 for the US). But obviously our boots will be a little more expensive for people outside of these areas, like yourself in Canada for example. Hence a retailer like SSense can sell SLP for cheaper on sale, as they’re a Canadian store, you won’t have to pay any additional customs or taxes, whereas we have to pay both customs or taxes when buying from them, so it works both ways I guess. Final Thoughts - Of course you can buy used SLP or wait for one of the twice a year sales that retailers use to clear the stock that hasn’t sold yet. But we at FROMTHEFIRST are much more than just an alternatives brand with a better price point, we actually have a lot of new unique designs coming out over the following months, styles you literally can’t buy anywhere at the moment and which will very much set us aside from other brands.
@fatalkill1015 жыл бұрын
Wow thanks for the thorough response! I addressed that the design cues you currently have are "original", considering there is no other manufacturer on the market that that produces the same boots. I failed to mention that you're indeed right; you guys do carry many different styles of leather (i.e. Python and Lizard). I apologize if I didn't make it clearer that you guys have excellent designs and the details are unmatched. In regards to quality, perhaps I received outliers. There is loose grain present on both pairs and there are a few redditers that cover that; I digress. Glad that all the boots now have a 40mm heel but I did measure both boots from the exact point which is from the very rear end. I do understand that Saint Laurent is owned by Kering, and through standard business knowledge, they would have cheaper access to quality materials and construction. I do apologize for not emphasizing that FROMTHEFIRST is perhaps more than a Saint Laurent alternative because you guys do at the current moment have a very distinct design language that is different than Saint Laurent. Overall my message is that the Wyatt Harness and the Enzo are marketed to the same demographic, but the experience that both products provide is very different. Neither is "better" as stated in the video, because the materials and the fit on both products behave differently.

Story et fall boots shafts have been way too slim for some time, not at all too wide. Many people couldn't even zip them up. But with more recent versions the shaft got a bit wider, which makes them wearable for pretty much everyone, but the shaft is still rather slim. I think the reason why you thought that the shaft looked wide is just: When you get a new pair, the shaft is not "round"; it is more "pressed together" from left and right (idk how to explain it lol), so from the side the shaft may look wide, but in reality it isn't. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say xD As far as I know, Story et Fall boots are as slim (maybe even a bit slimmer) as the FW13 Wyatts from SLP, in terms of overall silhouette and shaft.

@BryanJohnson4891 Жыл бұрын
No, you should get them ESPECIALLY if you can afford the Wyatt! ALL OF THESE ARE OF FAR BETTER QUALITY! My Wyatts broke down after under a year of light city use. THEY ARE SWEATSHOP MADE, CRAP, NOT REAL BOOTS, they are a pure fashion item and you’re paying for the brand. In comparison - my RM Williams we’re my GREAT GRANDFATHERS he bought in 1933!!! They have a lifetime guarantee - so far it has been FOUR LIFETIMES (generations)! Hitler was literally alive and chancellor of Germany when these were made AND THEY STILL LOOK NEW! These have been abused and resolved first in 1960, then in 1984, then this year just got em back. The uppers have remained the same since 1933. They literally saw WWII and if you give me your email I can send pictures of what the leather looks like - almost brand new! Absolutely abused but I maintained them well - the Wyatts were worn carefully, maintained well, and didn’t even last a year. Even a £30 shoe will last a year. These are utter trash LITERALLY marked up 99%. 1% of £1400 being £14, so no, sorry, they are worth 2% of the price. Gimme your email, I’ll happily send you a picture of the RM Williams and the YSLs and you tell me which one looks like it’s 91 years old! The RM Williams we’re literally worn by my grandfather from the jungles of Borneo to the sands of Tobruk to the Beaches of Normandy and to Berlin in the war. The Wyatts took me to a couple parties and maybe walked 100km in the city with them. No mud, no muck. The RM Williams then we’re worn in vietnam, by my grandfather, in Iraq by my father and by me in Afghanistan. I’m sorry but I cannot emphasise how good these boots are - and the new RM Williams are IMO even better made. £500 will last the rest of your life, your sons life, his sons life, and his sons life. At this rate the side of these boots are gonna have Burma - 1941 Tobruk-1942 Normandy - 1943 Arnhem - 1944 Berlin - 1945 Malaya - 1950 Vietnam - 1968 Iraq - 1990 Afghanistan - 2007 Taiwan - 2030 The Moon - 2100 Mars - 2200 Intergalactic void sector C - 2341 Engraved into the inner side of the upper at this rate! Nicks boots are also great, but if you want some REAL BOOTS, which every man and woman now should have, GET SOME RM WILLIAMS BECAUSE I CAN TESTIFY ON THE BIBLE TO THEM BEING THE MOST BANG FOR BUCK I HAVE EVER GOT! I cannot reccomend them enough. There are stylish ones - these however are crafted out of one single piece of leather and so even more durable than mine, there are work ones, ones that are a bit of both, for men and women. Best AUS500 Great Grandaddy ever spent!

Both are handcrafted in Italy and made with full grain calf leather. Blake stiching and 40mm stacked heel. The profiles are nearly identical too. I think its a good buy and depending on when youre reading this, FTF may be out of stock.

I have a pair of harness boots from story et fall and the shaft is actually very snug it's just the angle in pictures that make them look wide

Just bought a brand new saint laurent for €150 from italy, i think its best to find ways on how to buy your dream boots. And i think those designs stole slp? so in a way its buying counterfeit? Idk its only my opinion. But the last pair looks really durable

My the shaft on my story harness boots were super slim. So much so I couldn’t zip it up when I first got it cause of my ankle bone. I ended up zipping it up with a spray can and heated the leather up to loosen it.

I need a reply to this, What if you can get a $500 pair of the Wyatt boots in good condition? then is From The First still a better choice?
@DevanOnDeck5 жыл бұрын
Yes mainly because of the cemented sole vs Blake stitched sole... *From The First* can be resoled many years down the road because they aren’t just glued on like SLP
@ibingly5 жыл бұрын
No, the cemented soles are only FW13. Wyatts past that year are stitched. Yes, the SLPs are the way to go
@DevanOnDeck5 жыл бұрын
Chris Nelsen - *_WRONG_* If you go to the website now you’ll see the description says the soles are cemented (don’t be fooled by that top stitch on the sole)

You got that right. From The First are brilliant & they are Blake stitched & won’t fall apart like so many others on that split where the upper meets the sole for a long time. I get 10 yrs out of Blake stitched boots
@andrewfried31443 жыл бұрын
The zipper is wrong the boot is not worth the price especially the last boot. For that price a lot better boot can be made in the USA and Canada

still i’d go for ysl, wtf about a brand that doing the same thing with a specific brand and try to declare that they are doing it better, cheap attitude not worth it, if u cant afford it just sinple dont buy it. its the same as a designer brand that follow the silhouette of nike and make it more expensive, not touching those things
@iop2235 жыл бұрын

I've thought about getting FTF before, but honestly I have several pairs of Saint Laurent boots and the most ive ever paid is $600 for a pair (all brand new w/ box). It doesn't really make sense to me to personally to buy a copy when I could have the thing I really want for the same price if I'm patient and take the time to shop around.
@brandonkey1815 жыл бұрын
The FTF boots definitely don't quite live up to the look of the SLP.

Don’t but with FTF man.... their customer service is absolutely awful. Me and a lot of other people are still waiting for a refund from us sending their product back. If I could recommend anything don’t buy anything from them
