From an accountant's point of view - any business that has a daily cash inflow like retail, restaurants, or hairdressers - but monthly or quarters outflows like rent, loans, and extended credit terms from suppliers - are bound to run into an instant "cash trap". Unless the owners are disciplined and carefully control their cash flow - the money they took in is gone by the time the mortgage becomes due.

After owning a business for 10 years, I've learned that sadly the government doesn't award those who save for a rainy day and stockpile earnings. The tax man comes calling with a vengeance. Other than pure greed, that's one of the biggest reasons that I see businesses distribute out 100% of their net profits before the end of they year. It's a shame. Imagine if businesses were rewarded for putting 3 months, 6 months, even a year of their monthly costs of doing business into an emergency fund? The pandemic would have looked very different.

15 years ago my ex wife wanted to start a home decorating business. I spent $800 on a LLC. And spent money going out to potential clients homes only to not get hired. My ex wife gave up soon after and never put any work into it. Then she decided she wanted to do an antique store business. So I spent thousands of dollars getting a building and inventory and she didn’t lift a finger to do anything. I had to do all the work and soon closed up shop because she just wanted the revenue to go shopping and not the business itself. So we got divorced soon after. Lesson learned

Isn’t it futile to have an online store when you can find the same and unique products on Amazon. The Chinese have made it close to impossible to even shop in Amazon much less having a dinky online store where anyone can just use Google lens to find the same product at a cheaper price. Also as soon as your unique t-shirt or other product you made gets online someone else will make the same thing. All they have to do is see how your sales are. It’s like chasing your tail. I could see how you were successful back in 2009 but those days are over.
@mywifequitherjob9 ай бұрын
First off. Most people are omnichannel today. Second, it's not all about price. It's about marketing and the emotions you can instill in a customer. Take a look at true classic tees. They sell plain shirts for $25. I have tons of examples from students in my class. In fact an interview is going out tomorrow from one of my 7 figure students. I've been selling for 17 years now. Do you think that people only buy cheap unbranded Chinese products?
@justhere37949 ай бұрын
@@mywifequitherjob You are basically talking about unicorns. I'm not talking about cheap unbranded Chinese products but talking about how it is much easier nowadays to buy a similar product with AI helping you out when you shop. For the masses, it is feasible to do what you are saying but like you said you have been selling for 17 years, thus explains why you diverted to doing blogs and paid courses. Selling items in a small website with sales funnels is more difficult now. Yes , you can make a few sales but I wouldn't say that you will make millions like the unicorns.
@mywifequitherjob9 ай бұрын
@@justhere3794 I didn't "divert" anything. I run a 7 figure store over at bumblebeelinens.com. I own a warehouse with employees. Running a business is difficult but it can be done and I have so many recent examples of colleagues and students doing 7 figures. If this is your current mindset, then yes, you aren't ever going to make money nor are you ever going to succeed. Making 6 or 7 figures is quite doable. I was in a similar dilemma two years back. A business may not be the right way to go about getting that extra money except you won't do the running of the business yourself. You should probably consider investing in stocks, ETF's or even Real Estates if you have the money. You don't necessarily need a lot of time for this and it is equally rewarding. You can even use the service of a financial expert and this way, you literally do nothing. The fees for doing business go up all the time and def. year after year. It costs a lot of money to keep a business open. Nowadays the prices are outrageously high and most people are not buying. Groceries and rent and the business to be in, oh and hospitals. What is terrible is the subscription model for services. An absolute raid!

I used to live in a building with a failed laundromat on the ground floor. There are more videos on print-on-demand than people making money from print-on-demand!

In this year 2024, and taking note of what is happening to the economies of the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand regarding private and commercial real estate, it is an area that I would steer clear of at this point.

Great insights! Starting an online business indeed offers lower financial risks compared to traditional brick-and-mortar ventures, making it an attractive option for aspiring entrepreneurs. Leveraging dropshipping and print on demand models can significantly reduce upfront costs and streamline operations. 💼

Fail, this one needs to ! I was a field service tech for Cummins Allison 852 Feehanville Drive Mount Prospect, IL 60056 they make money counting equipment (not the diesel people) however this is what ya deal with, half assed furbished parts and to top it of they told me not to do the preventative maintenance anymore at customer sites just run the vacuum a little bit and wipe down the machines. I was like "But that is gonna make the service call numbers go up and is >theft of service< WHY ? Well they wanted to keep selling new equipment every 3 years or so see ? With At Will I was fired,SAD HUH ? Country is in TROUBLE...

@mywifequitherjob Are your courses Step-by-Step (literal pdf with s-b-s) instructions? I am 66 and not totally technologically challenged, but I do not have a natural acumen that naturally and intuitively knows what to do and connects the dots. One strength? I don't quit. I just need clear instructions and someone to whom I can ask questions. I can't afford to retire and I can't keep up a 12-hour a day j.o.b. much longer. Thank you for responding....I do hope I hear from you. I need instructions on how to get started and to get established. TY ❤

What do you use for a business address? Do you need a business address to have online store?
@fredericapanon207Ай бұрын
I recommend having a business address, even if it is just a rented Post Office box. I hate sites where you cannot see where the business is based. It's like, what are you trying to hide?
