4 cute Robin Red Breast Chicks in a garden Bird House.

A very sweet little video of 4 Robin Red Breast Chicks that hatched and fledged. The video starts with mother sitting on the eggs, then one week after hatching, two weeks after hatching and then the day before they fled from the Bird House. I built the Robin Red Breast Bird House 7-8 years ago and this is the first year that they nested and raised their young in the Bird House. I feel sooooooo honoured..

All creatures great and small, what a blessing they are. I've just started feeding a robin in my back yard, nest is up in the bushes. He's already brave enough to come down when I am sat about 12 feet away. Ordered some mealworms, will have him on my hand eventually.

Robins are indeed very friendly and will devour the mealworm from your hand, enjoy.

I think the parent bird was removing the poo and flying off to dispose of it outside the nest, very interesting to see how caring and hygenic they are. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@robertcaffrey6097 I love listening to these little birds. Could you maybe share the sizes of the birdhouse parts? If you have them. And also did you put the straws inside to attract them to nest in there or how did you attract them to come?

@@ani.dimitrova The Robin bird house dimensions are widely available on line, I secured the bird house on to the wall and it was a few years before the Robins set up house there and only when the spotted Laurel shrub beside it had grown significantly to help conceal the bird box. Apparently Robins like shrub or hedging concealing the bird house. The Robins didn't set up house in the bird house this year, pity. I left the bird house bare with no straw, I think if the birds see nest materials they think its another bird using the bird house. A number of years ago I have also had the Robins nest on a shelf in a boiler house attached to the side of my house, where they got very used to me coming and going from the shed. I went in one day to find the chicks flying all around the shed trying to find a way out. :-)

Seems like the entry to the bird house is too big, predators like cats and other birds can eat the babies.

I thought the same myself when constructing the birdhouse, I got the construction dimensions online from the RSPB trusting their knowledge and know how. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@robertcaffrey6097 ....in reading more about Robins they say they don't typically inhabit or nest in enclosed dwellings or bird houses as we know them, that's probably why the dimensions on your box called for such a big opening.

@@eightinches6094 It could be , I had the bird house mounted in the same location for a number of years before the Robin nested in it. A few years ago a Robin built a nest in my garden boiler shed (dry and warm area) the Robin and the chicks were very comfortable there and stayed until it was time for fledging. BTW the parent Robin had found access through a small gap under the door of the shed.
