You bowed at Torii gates and in front of shrine sites each time. It's a very beautiful behavior at devine places like Ise shrine. I'm so impressed and touched. I thank you as a Japanese. Most travelers ignore those manners. 鳥居をくぐる時も神社の前でもお辞儀してくださってましたね。日本人としてとてもありがたく嬉しかったです。そこまでなさる旅行者さんは多くないので。どうもありがとうございました。

Story time: For my trip last year, my plane had to abort mid-take off due to a latch being loose. I missed my connection to Haneda and ended up having to change my itinerary to accommodate the loss of the day. I ended up in Nagoya instead of Nagasaki, and decided to travel to Ise to see these shrines. It set the tone for my entire trip, and was generally a lovely time.

y'know, im 100% japanese but born in the US. I can't speak, write, nor read, and can only comprehend basic Japanese sentences since my parents use them regularly in the household. I've visited Japan a bunch of time with my parents but I still get a little 'homesick'. Like, not that I'm super familiar with my culture or anything, and in fact my values and mindset doesn't really share the same ideas as that of a Japanese person, but I miss the food, the history, the atmosphere, my family, and even the scent of it. Once I was playing a videogame with a few friends and I thought I heard a ringtone that's used before every announcement in the intercom of a train station, and I had an insane nostalgia attack. It's been a while since I've been to Japan but this video brought me back a little bit. Thought it was cool, 10/10.

Beautiful. We did Ise a couple years ago and the place was just stunning. The trees were so massive and beautiful. You did it justice, beautifully filmed. We spent the night in Toba, which was nice, but next time I'm definitely going to push for Ago Bay... the food looked so good. Love that you always include each places specialties. Anyone booking travel in Japan should spend as much time researching places to eat as they do planning places to go. ...actually probably want to spend more time researching food...so good.

Besides my usual comment about the sheer quality of your films and how sympathetic Raina and Charly are, how is it possible that you always have amazing weather when filming? Do you travel more often to some destinations sometimes or are you just insanely lucky? Oh and I also really like that you fill the videos with a lot of B-Roll. In my eyes that's especially atmospheric and calming. Adds to the flow of the videos! Keep safe everyone.

And to reply to your question, it is mostly luck, because its difficult to reschedule a shoot! One of the rare times we weren't lucky with weather was during our trip to Koyasan last year, we ended up having to reschedule the whole thing due to a typhoon. - Charly

I always love japanguide's content but recently there have been a lot of road trips, and as a train lover it'd be nice to see more itineraries which utilise the country's rail network (I know many people who go to Japan use a JR pass so it'd be practical too)

I really like the newer format, spending more time rather tan cramming everything in. And the new style of audio is a VAST improvement. In older videos, we got to listen to a loud soundloop over and over and over and I had to just stop listening.

Hi! We actually have a page dedicated to visiting shrines: www.japan-guide.com/e/e2057.html Hope this helps! As for the lasst segment of the clip, it is considered good manners to turn back and bow at the torii gate of a shrine.

For people who commented on the mask, I'm not sure when they shoot this, but I'm sure the host will wear a mask if they shoot the video during the pandemic. They live in Japan, people, and I'm sure they know what to behave in public ! So just chill out and enjoy the ride like she said haha...
@Hiking-guide-and-scenery4 жыл бұрын
nice video as usual. But using a car for what you did is potentially adding problems. Nagoya is easy to go to from chubu airport. Ise shrine is also a standard destination by train (can even do it as a 1-day trip). I did that + other things in Ise in a 2-day train+local bus trip. Pearl island? Toba sea-side with that famous rock with a giant rope around it? sorry cannot remember names. Too bad you missed those, unless it would make the video too long (I am sure those are in the japan-guide site). Oh, I just saw that the video "includes paid promotion". OK, that could explain a few things. Anyway, still good videos. And looking forward to the next episodes~

Other than air ticket, depending on you wanting to stay in hotels or hostals, the price will vary, hostal costs around $20/day for a bunk bed; if you don't eat at fancy restaurants all the time, but buy food at convenient stores like 7/11, you can have lunch or dinner for less than $10/meal. Public transportation does add up, again depending on how far you travel, or if you just stick to a city, JR RAIL PASS is good for consideration if you do multi cities for a week, Hope that helps !
