So glad to see this vlog, My grandad was Hungarian he lived just past the elisabeth bridge on the buda side, we spent every school holiday there and still go now, 2nd home 2nd language ❤your doin well with your pronunciation attempts 👍🏻 the baths are said as see-chi-ni, Hungarian is 1 of the hardest languages to learn in the world, love all your travel series

Hi ! These old "gangos ház" (gangosh houses) are like that. Gang comes from the German gang word for corridor. A gangos house means something that has such a hanging corridor. This type of house was popular before the First World War. It was built specifically for rental housing for working families. Heating was done with a coal stove, lighting with candles. The rooms were built with high ceilings, because this way oxygen could be provided even at night. This was the standard construction until the spread of electric lighting. The houses were well built, so instead of demolishing them, they were modernized. Instead of the previous common bathroom, individual bathrooms were built for each apartment, with a sewer and water pipe. During the latest modernization, the space is divided vertically. It's a forced solution, but that's all you can do. Today, every apartment is privately owned. One of them is being renovated right now. I think there's still work to be done on other apartments.... The Széchenyi (secheni) is the name of an old noble family. The most famous member is István, whose idea was the Chain Bridge, the railway network, maritime and inland waterway commercial shipping, and much more. About payment: card payments are completely accepted everywhere. Pizza with pineapple is just like lángos with nutella.. Lángos is classified as a savory dish. The classic version only has a little garlic, sour cream and cheese. What I can still accept is onion and bacon. I put the rest in the tourist category.... That cute little ship is the Kisfaludy ( kishfaludi) . This is a replica built in 2013. The original paddle steamer operated on Lake Balaton between 1846 and 1887. This was also István Széchenyi's idea. At that time, it was the only ship on Lake Balaton. There were no ports yet. 1:02.47 that strange oval statue is the zero kilometer. This is the starting point for calculating distance in Hungary.

Absolutely loved this vlog. And thanks for the tips on all these apps for storing luggage etc. I’m a bit of a caveman with all these things, so that will come in handy. Budapest looks absolutely beautiful, and I think we might just book it for early December next year. I’d love to do the Christmas markets etc, get you in the spirit.
