I've been thinking about writing something like this for a forum post as a lot of people learn modes but then have no idea how to use them. This is so good! You saved me a lot of work, now I can just share your videos. 🙂 I use that same "trick" of using different inversions to keep common bass notes, it sounds great and really helps connect things together. I "discovered" it using the captain chords plugin.

Hey Stephen! Thank you for the compliment 😊 I'm glad that you like the video! Indeed a lot of people learn modes, but it somehow always stays very academic with a lot of people, while it really does not have to be complicated. And the results are great! And the trick of holding the bass note while playing different (inverted) chords is really useful right?! And you can do it in each mode 😁 just with different chords.

Dorian & Mixolydian best two modes by far!!

If you compare it to the other modes, what is it that you like better about Dorian and Mixolydian?
@craigedwards68922 жыл бұрын
@@LearningMusicSkills The Dorian has that dark edge yet still very sweet while Mixolydian is like the reverse of Dorian - bright with a darker edge. I just always end up playing these two modes more than any other.

Yes, Dorian is great! Used it many times. It feels easier to me to write something interesting in Dorian or Mixolydian, compared to Minor and Major scales. Good video!
@LearningMusicSkills3 жыл бұрын
I definitely agree! Especially like Mixolydian, you can get some very emotional sounds out of it. While it sounds less obvious than Dorian.

Even if the chord prog is simply aeolian, dorian soloing is great over it (dorian is very similar to aeolian)
