Alice, I gave birth to my little one last week - and I can not thank you enough for your lectures and especially for this technique. It was really a game changer for me . From the beginning of the first contractions to the very end of pushing phase, my partner doing counterpressure for me was something that saved me from all that severe pain, and I even managed to deliver my baby without epidural.

Thanks for the tips! Preparing to help my wife with our 4th little one! Does kind of sadden me to hear the "pregnant person" lingo... women go through so much and deserve the distinction they earn as mothers. All the best!

Class 10 homework 👍🏻. For class ten I had nearly 5 pages of notes! Typically, as a doula, I use two hands with my thumbs on the back, or a massage tool that spans the spine and has balls or rollers on both ends. Though I do carry balls with me, too.

@@birthtoolbox yes! One way that one of my moms liked was sitting on a birthing ball with dad behind her. He used his fist on her lower back/ tailbone, and I pushed back on her knees. This brought a lot of relief.

I just found your channel and appreciate your education so much. I’m wondering if you have any tips for the mother of the laboring person. Both my daughter and son in law have told me they want me at the hospital with them. I feel both honored and blessed by this request. ( I am a retired nurse, but never L&D). However, I really don’t know what my part should be, I want this to be about them as a couple. Should I just mostly find ways to support and relieve my son in law as he supports her? He is a wonderful husband and I know he will be an amazing daddy. Any tips for the grandma?
@birthtoolbox
@birthtoolbox 9 ай бұрын
I love that your daughter and son-in-law asked you to be part of the big day! I have a couple of thoughts about this. 1) I've had several grandmas-to-be take my childbirth class so that they are up to date on how labor works and the options that your daughter will have in labor. (you can get full access to the classes if you want to join my channel...super afforadable option) 2) I would talk with them about how they would like you to help. They might want you on the sidelines or they might want you to help with comfort measures. Of course, they might not actually know either, but it would be great to ask. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions, Alice

Thank you so much for your kind reply. Because of your response, I had a conversation with my daughter and feel that we are on the same page concerning my role. My son in law doesn’t do well with medical stuff and has such a hard time watching her be in pain, so I am learning as much as I can so that I can be in the background gently prompting him and supporting him. Thank you again.

Good and quite informative but still don’t understand how much pressure to apply to the birthing lady

It depends on her. Try what you think and then let her tell you to press more or less! Different people like different amounts of pressure.

I had a very fast VERY painful labor all just below my panty line (absolutely no pain in my back or belly). From the first contraction to birth was under 5 hours. It was a home birth and I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant again doing another home birth and am living with horrifying PTSD from how traumatizing my last labor was. Will these techniques help with precipitous labor and abnormal labor pain like i experienced before? Is there anything i can do to avoid having ALL of my labor pain condensed to 1 small area??
@birthtoolbox
@birthtoolbox 2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question Laurie, but really hard to predict. Counterpressure usually does relieve some of the pain from contractions. The key word is "some". It doesn't relieve all of the pain. Do you have access to a tub? I would recommend having that ready to go for your next labor. Feeling pain in one small area is unusal and every birth is different. Did you move and change positions with your last birth? I'm wondering if some asymmetrical movements might have helped.

Does counter pressure mean you are pushing in? I don't understand how the pressure is applied.
@birthtoolbox
@birthtoolbox 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it means pushing in as much as the person you are supporting wants. The amount of pressure is dictated by her.

And what about the majority of us who would love to be called women and mothers? Yes we can have inclusive language for Trans men, non binary etc. without exclude women too. She could say pregnant women AND birthing persons, that way she could include everyone especially the 99,99999% percent of us.

I lose some rest because of my lower back pain. I feel that my hips will go out of position when I rest on my side. I never experienced this kind of situation once again when I learned about this back problems guide called Kenzano Ayb (Go ogle it). I can now have enough sleep once again now that my back discomfort is fully gone.
