No rookie in the NFL had ever had 22 TD’s at ANY position.
@user619tlsdca55 жыл бұрын
What Gale Sayers did to the NFL was he exposed the open field of Defensive players s range of tackling. I dont know any other player or RB before Sayers played in NFL that had his talent. Before he came the NFL was strictly a scrimmage line range of most tackles. Its why Sayers stood out so much of his skills especially his SPEED when he went to NFL and it was obvious the DEFENSIVE PLAYERS had no skills in the open field and forced all defensive coaches to change the way they trained the defensive players by practice or cuts of players that wouldnt be skilled enough of Sayers CHANGING THE GAME IN THE 60S...

I know it sucks to play the "What if" game but imagine the stats Mr. Sayers could have had without his knee injury and a 16 game season like to day. Also imagine Chicago going from Gale Sayers to Walter Payton with little to no break between them.

Lots of backfield talent for the Bears in 1965. Ronnie Bull at FB and Gale Sayers at HB were the starters most games, but the backups included Jon Arnett and Joe Marconi. Passing wise there was Mike Ditka and Johnny Morris, catching what Rudy Bukich threw, along with Bill Wade playing from the bench from time to time. Yet the Bears started out badly that year, only to play catch up the rest of it, falling short of the Colts and Packers.

According to him he said it was around 4.7 which isn't all that impressive. I think his "game speed" was probably faster. What was unique and freakish about his running was that he could make lightning fast cuts and lose hardly any speed at all. He wasn't "start and stop" like say Barry Sanders. He was just so fluid and smooth. He rarely back pedals and seems to almost always be moving forward with his cuts. His career yards per carry is 5.0 which is only slightly behind Jim Brown who comes in at 5.2 yards per carry. His field vision and instincts amount to a kind of football genius i think. :)
