So I went to Girls Camp too, and some Youth Camp Leaders did a prank that scared the living daylights out of a group of campers. Sounds similar to this story. They "borrowed" the deer head that was mounted to the cafeteria wall. Then they went and hid at night so that nobody could see them. When a group of campers walked by, they made sounds. The campers shined there light so they could see the deer head. At first they were excited to see a deer, but then the "deer" stood up on two legs and started charging them. The group of campers dropped most of their flashlights, and took off running. Every girl for herself. A couple go a little hurt, and chided by the camp leaders for screaming so late at night and running around recklessly. It was epic. That story got told for years to come. Just wish I had been a part of it. Over the years the story got changed to being more and more epic and mystical more deer were added to it... Basically each time a good story teller told it, they changed it just a tiny bit to sound more exciting. I hardly believe that this story is more than a prank, because Girls Camp is known for being a prank war. Saran wrapping toilets or stealing mascots and hanging them up the flagpole were common pranks. (One mascot looked human, so a poor girl thought a camper had committed suicide. They stopped that type of prank that year. 😞) Snipe hunts were done every year. Searching for an animal that didn't exist, and the ones leading the snipe hunts would toss rocks to make it sound like we were actually hunting something... The best part was that my first year I knew what was going on, because my older sisters played the trick on me... Sonic decided to act like I was super scared... But that year someone actually caught one of the rocks that were thrown. The older girls had to quickly come up with that the snipes were really tricky and sometimes tricked people that way.

My first summer camping experience away from home wasn’t very good. They put me and another girl in a canoe on a pond and I didn’t know how to paddle. We couldn’t get back to shore and she had to go the bathroom. Take a guess what happened. Once we finally reached shore the councilors yelled at us and sent us back to our tent while they took everyone else swimming at the pool. Good times 😒 This was just one of the bad things that happened

Nothing scary happened during the scant few weeks I spent at Girl Scout summer camps as a child. To be honest, I can't remember it being any different from other summer camp experiences I had, which is a good thing for the most part. That first story reminded me of the wonderful experience of total darkness I had in Howe Caverns over a decade ago, even if the boys ended up receiving a haunting warning from a "banshee" like spirit. I didn't hear/see any spirits on my trip. The only 'scary' experience at a summer camp I can remember having was panicking and crying in the midst of climbing a rock wall, afraid to come down for fear of looking weak and afraid to go up because of my fear of falling from a great height. It was the summer before my senior year of high school.
