I've found pathing to be a big skill to use with Genji, since his long range is weaker than most characters its important to get into position without taking damage since you are likely going to lose trades.

when you use your right click as genji, do you hold it or click it? whats more efficient

Click it when your aim is lined up. Your aim will be better if you shoot when your shot is lined up, rather than lining up your shots according to your characters shooting rhythm. The only characters I ever hold down fire for is heros like soldier and tracer who have automatic firing weapons.
