Hey thanks for the video! I was BLESSED with a 1977 2wd 20r longbed toyota sr5 (hilux to the rest of the world) mine is 100 percent original except someone stole one of my hubcaps but everything else is factory , even the paint! Haha 😂 the truck lived its whole life in Colorado, but I drove it back to the beach life in southern CA , everything works too! I am replacing front and rear suspension with adjustable coilovers. But in the back I want a 4 link replacement I love the push rod style because it has such a low profile. Since I do plan on lowering the truck just a bit but I didn't want to cut into the frame or into the bed

hello clear and very detailed explanation congratulations. I would like to know if the triangulated 4 link makes the off-road suspension more flexible than the parallel 4 link? and then if with the 4 triangulated link the wheel in maximum excursion will have the same effect as the 4 parallel link, that is, that the wheel self-steers and shortens the wheelbase?

Thanks for the video, but the 45 degrees statement about the panhard rod or 4-link forward and reverse movement was a little off. It makes more sense to say "with the same axle travel distance" not the same angle of travel. If they both traveled 45 degrees, the long one would actually travel further from side to side as well. It is no big deal sense it is impossible to do anyway. You are right about the long one reducing side to side travel. It was just a little off on the way you explained it. I just thought I would throw that out there in case anyone was confused.

That was great. But I do have a question. With the parallel set up you said about the panhard arm going across the rear. When that is going up and down won’t that make an arch itself ? As this is a relatively short arm won’t that push the axle from left to right ?

I believe your intent with this was for off-road vehicles mostly but in the case of a muscle car with a solid rear axle is there a benefit to using a Watts link in addition to triangulated 4 Link or do they become redundant?
@BrokeBastardGarage
@BrokeBastardGarage 6 жыл бұрын
Wolfly Loyals from my experience with triangulated 4 link. A Panhard or watts link I’m not needed. But if you are building a drag car or a road course car, Watts link could be a great help to keep the rear in planted during any weight transfer.
@Wulven-Hollow
@Wulven-Hollow 6 жыл бұрын
Broke Bastard Garage Thank you for responding. The intent with the car when I build it is going to be a daily driver that is able to perform as best as I can make it in just about any type of environment so I want to make sure that the rear axle is as planted as possible and able to handle whatever type of racing or driving I throw at it

Thanks man. Hey bro what do you think is best on a jk unlimited with 6" long arm for extreme rock crawling between 3 link vs 4 link? For maximum articulation and what not.

Sorry I'm so late to the party but only now finding the channel, love it by the way. Which would you prefer for a truck that I want to go lower with but not to sitting her on the floor? I want to build street/hill climb performance style build but I'm new to suspension. This is my first really in depth build, with full fabrication and stuff but I'm difficulty doesn't deter me so long as I get it right and I just got a great opportunity with this truck to go full tilt. I appreciate any help/advice I can get and I'll be binging a buttload of your videos over the next few weeks lol

T Flo for a performance suspension I would look in to a 4 link with coil overs and disc brake conversion for rear and coil over and disc brake in front. Maybe a front clip front a place like QA1 or place like it if you have the funds.

@@BrokeBastardGarage Awesome thank you so much, sounds like a pretty solid plan. I'll start researching, you think a triangulated 4link with some good coil overs would be the best? or is there a benefit to parallel

Would it work if on one side the diagional was the top bar and on the other it was the bottom bar? What I am picturing is having the diagional bars cross, one above the driveshaft and the other below, each paired with a straight link in the other plane. Each end of the axel would have a link above it and below it, but at the frame one side will have both links high and the other will have both links low. My thought is that this would more solidly locate the axel side to side even with very long links. Basically I want a better compromise between handling and ride quality. Any thoughts?
@BrokeBastardGarage
@BrokeBastardGarage 6 жыл бұрын
James Drissel I think I understand what you are saying. The only problem I foresee is that if the top bars don’t move at the same arc of travel then the could cause the axle to twist and bind. Same thing for the bottom. If you can get the geometry to work. Then go for it
@yerwrng
@yerwrng 6 жыл бұрын
Later location if axle to body is a function of later separation of the triangulated links the wider the more stable it be side to side .

So triangulated 4 link is the same as a canted 4 link? I need help figuring this out. I am building a rear suspension for a 1600hp chevelle for drag and autocross. It has to do both. Do I run a canted 4 link with ladder bars? then just remove the ladder bars for auto x?
