I don’t think anyone was calling Jalen Johnson a bust. Like you said he was the 20th pick, and in the minutes he played his first 2 years he looked good he just didn’t get the opportunity to show how good he was. The one thing I will say is his jumper is much improved, but anyone calling him a bust just wasn’t watching.

White also developed defensively. He went from being instant offence off the bench to a legitimate NBA starter. I really like how White put in the work to develop, but I also think it's great how supportive he was of his teammates, even when he wasn't getting the minutes.

@jrmarcus Thats why he'll fit on any team. Instant offense, improved defense. Easily could have pouted about lack of minutes, but chose to support his teammates. Likely took a couple of years off his resume. But that attitude will make you a coveted player.

Zach didn't hinder his growth... it's Billy Donovan who moved Coby to the bench last season and gave Ayo at the point guard spot instead of giving Coby that role last season. BD didn't give Coby a chance at the point guard until this season.
@gabbywitt873
@gabbywitt873 5 ай бұрын
@@amean88zachs ballstopping play is the problem tho. Billy Donovan at the end of the day can only do so much with the max contract guy. Stars cooperating with their coach is an anomaly and the fact that Zach isnt one of those guys just further proves why he’s a hinderance. I like Zach and I’m not big on Billy Donovan, but until Zach alters his game to account for the fact that his first step is gone, taking away his dual threat of baiting people into defending the drive, allowing him to step back (sweet move, i miss those times) he’s gonna delude himself into being Bradley Beal.
@reignmans
@reignmans 5 ай бұрын
@@gabbywitt873 so... zach is ballstopping who always needs to up the tempo while demar who needs to dribble the air out of the ball so he go to his spot and if he hasnt created enough separation to his defender, he then goes into his 100 pumpfakes motion until someone bites... if not pass it with 4" remaining is not? demar hindered zach who then in turn hindered coby (who was benched by billy tho lmfao)

I always believed in Coby White since the Bulls drafted him! He was my favorite prospect in 2019 and it’s awesome seeing him finally find his groove. I’m not even a Bulls fan (I’m a Lakers fan) but I love seeing exciting guards thrive in the NBA and put on good games. I think I’m one of the few people that never gave up hope on White 😅 I just thought he needed a change of scenery, but I’m glad he’s doing this with the team that drafted him. It would be awesome to pair him up with a young, defensive big that’s on the same timeline as him (early 20’s and improving year by year) so they could be a great guard/forward duo. If Marvin Bagley was still good, that would’ve been a great duo but Bagley doesn’t even look like he has a future in the NBA at this point.

The reason why Coby white's number are low last season and year before is because he becomes smarter, focusing where he could help besides from scoring. White turned himself into two way potential, his defense,iQ,ball handling, finishing and playmaking improved a lot compared to his first two seasons.

Every player drafted by the Bulls imo aren't busts. They were just forced to play in a very weird spot. Lauri was able to emerge into the player he is now when he was traded away, he always had been a great scorer, just wasn't given enough touches to make plays for himself. WCJ is also a very consistent bigman, not that great but far from being a bust. Now Coby White and PWill are showing what they are capable of without too much ballhandler or guards in the lineup with LaVine being out. I'm so glad Coby is showing his true combo guard potential and PWill is showing more confidence in making plays of his own.

I blame the teams for creating these situations. They overestimate the potential productivity of rookies. They build them up in the media to justify their pick. Which will set (unreasonable) expectations for these players (just because they picked them top 5). When that young player can't deliver the goods, he gets cooked in the media. Booed and mocked by the fans. Yet it was the team who picked them at that spot and set the expectation... Anthony Bennet (#1 pick of Cleveland 2013) and Darko Milicic (#2 pick of Detroit 2003 ) are the best examples of teams who whiffing on their picks and the player paying the price for that. Bennett and Milicic should have never been picked that high (or they shouldn't have had all those expectations put on them). They were not ready for that. It's like getting a promotion you are not qualified to handle. You will fail and get blamed for it. Only few players can come to the NBA preceded by huge expectations and deliver on them (Lebron James, David Robinson, Shaq to name a few)

I agree that Obi was never a busy. He never really looked bad in NY. He just wasn’t gonna get minutes behind Randle. However, I think Thibs will play young players but they need to play defense. IQ didn’t get minutes his rookie year. Obi just doesn’t play good defense or defense at all. Also IQ had a knee injury which is why he missed the TOR game. I think that’s why his minutes were limited.

Coby has been playing a lot like Trae young and I'm ok with that. He still backs down from shots he should pull the trigger on but that confidence will come.

Obi doing well proves thibs isnt that good of a coach. Dude plays favorites and has this weird ego despite never actually winning anything. An actual good coach would’ve found ways to get obi involved and improve the boring, outdated offense the Knicks generally roll with. Knicks will never take that next step with him as the coach

If you ever thought Coby White was a bust, do us all a favor and stop leaving comments on basketball videos. He’s been buried on the bench since he got drafted. He’s always looked promising and showed great potential, but his poverty organization constantly held him back. It’s hard to play well when you’re never getting consistent minutes.

In the last 10 games, Obi has topped 20 points once, which surprised me because in that same span he has as many single digit scoring games as he does double digit, 5 each. That 20 point game is the rare game then. And he's not consistent. And a team expects more than the 3 points that he scored last game v. Magic from the FA 'scoring' stretch 4 that they paid in the offseason. Dude is a bust. Overpaid now.

Toppin is a horrible defender and will be 26 this season plus he didn’t do much for the Knicks he’s still a bust in my opinion. The other three are going to be special for the next decade

Obi has never been a bust and there are many very good to great players that aren't great on defense just look at Lebron Jokic and Luka none of then are great defenders and some might even say they are actually horrible defenders...seems you just don't like obi
@bkelly625
@bkelly625 5 ай бұрын
@@robglobal1 Luka is the only bad defender you named Jokic is underrated on D and LeBron was All-Defense in his prime he’s just old now. Obi isn’t a total bust of a player but for the Knicks he was because he was 8th pick and never was more than an 8th-9th man for them. Long term no way he continues starting for the Pacers this is temporary until they find someone better or Jarace Walker develops they need a defensive presence at the 4 and Obi is the opposite. He’s an okay player but was a bust of a pick for the Knicks while the other three look like future top 60 player material if not higher and Coby is probably already there and they are all still on the teams that drafted them

Why in the world is Obi on this list and what purpose does it serve to mislead people like this? He got paid but I guarantee the Pacers had hoped they were getting a much better and productive player. Not only was he a draft bust but he's one of the biggest busts of the last FA period. And before long this same dude will be making a video about how bad of a contract that is, hahaha.
