@@martyfarrell4491 yes and no. Yes you can pickle, but make sure your piece is cooled before putting it in (I use room temp pickle). Hot glass in cool or room temp pickle can crack off. I’m not sure what would happen if you put it in hot pickle. Even when I pickle it changes the metal a bit (notice how it looks soft pink?). So I tend to sand that off back to shiny copper because I’m not convinced the glass will stick to the pickled metal or be durable. You could even just take some steel wool and sand it. Copper is pretty inexpensive comparatively, so nothing wrong with experimenting. Let me know if you do!

Why do the backside. I like the way the copper color looks. Do you have to enamel the back??

@ it is important to do the backside because the glass puts tension on the metal. Without the counter enamel on the back, at best it will warp the piece, at worst the enamel will pop off. A rule is run is to have the same number of coats on the front and the back to keep the integrity of the piece and the force in the metal is the same on each side. You may be able to do only 1 side if it is thicker metal and you only do 1 thin coat on the front.
