I groove about 50 tires a year if not more. Been in the racing game a long time, your common sense thoughts on tires is correct. Best of luck to you.

I've never done a street tire, never had a call for it, but it should work exactly the same way. They only thing I would worry about is maybe having the tire rebalanced after grooving to avoid any vibrations. I wouldn't get too carried away with it though. Maybe ask a tire shop about any dangers?

I don't ever deflate the tire. The grooving iron is not set near deep enough to cut through the entire tire, and a deflated tire tends to bow in around the middle which makes grooving more difficult for me.

From a physical stand point, I don't see a problem. Any type of rubber should be able to be grooved. From a safety stand point, well I don't know. 18 wheeler tires have a lot of stress put on them. If you cut too deep on any tire, you can get into the chords and damage the tire. Theres also the issue of the tire remaining balanced. I guess it just depends on how much rubber is left on the tire when you start grooving.

grooving and siping are keys to a slick track set up, you guys on the street should be watching videos for asphalt cars or drag racing siping does more good on asphalt than grooving

do you deflate the tire prior to grooving it for safety reasons?

Not that I've noticed, but for dirt racing, tire balancing has never been a big deal. The tracks are uneven and rough enough that a tire has to be really bad out of shape before anything can be felt from the driver's seat..

Just one thing when you say radius I think you mean circumference. But other than that these videos are great!
