4 Saddest Car Guy Excuses I'm Tired of Hearing. You ever buy a New truck to avoid buying $300 worth of Tires? Caleb Hammer finds some of the wildest guests with some of the most questionable sets of priorities. Y'all thought I was joking when I said clowns walked among us, but just know they're more common than you think. In fact, you might be one too! Like imagine using 300 Shot Nitrous and blowing up 3 engines instead of just BUYING A SUPERCHARGER INSTEAD. BRO WASTED LIKE $20K on those rebuilds I bet. Could've just spent $5-$8K on a Supercharger kit and called it a day. Obviously if any of those guests by off chance are watching this video, please don't take my advice. Y'all need to get out of financial debt first before you do anymore clowning.

Planned obsolescence. Car brands are partially to blame on this since the olden days. They make new cars with more features that makes your old car look unnecessary (even though it's still pretty much usable and very much viable for the coming decades) so you buy a new car to not feel like you're left behind anymore by your fellows. Car guys with grease on their elbows or a basic understanding of keeping a car in good shape don't fall for this mental trap much, but regular people and normal car owners do.

@@PlatinumNathanother issue, especially in my country is that there's a law that you can now only buy cars that are max 10 yrs old or less (up to current date) . That makes it difficult to buy when a car that is lets say a 2016 cost $22k or more and its just basic, has engine issue most likely.

My fully built up Toyota Celica was written off. That car was my baby. I got it at 20k miles, it was at 150k when some drunk cretin slammed into me because he decided that on roundabouts you drive straight over the centre and T bone someone. The insurance didn’t let me have it back. (uk insurance laws are shite) I could’ve repaired it as I’m a mechanic. But they decided that it was completely dead. I was devastated and they paid me far less than the car was worth. I didn’t take a loan to buy a replacement, I went to my local scrap yard and purchased the first running car I found for £300. That’s my current car, a 20 year old automatic Volvo. I’m saving up for a new car but the fact is I refuse to go into debt just to have a nice car.
@brian0410

This is what people should do in the US. But no, we all go out and buy a brand new car we can’t afford when something happens with the current car. Or we get bored of the current car. I work for a bank in the corporate office and I see people getting their cars repossessed weekly because they fail to make payments. Part of that is they all buy cars they can’t afford in the first place. There is nothing wrong with driving a basic Volvo, Toyota, Honda, etc. Until you can afford the car you want. People need to realize needs come before wants.

Crazy how some people don't understand this to save money -Keep your car -Do basic maintenance -Make necessary repairs if the car is used I bought a 4,000$ Volvo and so far, the biggest thing I had to replace was the front suspension for about 1,000$ since it almost has 300,000 km traveled. I did it knowing I will get through the next 3 years of college with that thing and that I could still probably sell it for a similar price in the future. Buying a new/almost new cars as someone who's just starting out in life is a huge setback, especially if you follow these terrible habbits of changing every year

As a person that has own multiple vehicles (owned about 6 by age 22), I never understood people buying cars just to break them and for a ridiculous price. If anything if you want to buy a car just to do crazy things with it, buy a garbage vehicle and go from there. I bought a Chrysler Sebring for $900, fixed all of its issues then sold it for $5,000 after I was bored with the car and it only cost $2,000 to replace everything that was wrong. Not everyone can be Throtl or Donut where breaking a car is kind of a no big deal and even they make it a big deal because it generally is.

Bro I love getting new Tires. I think I may be addicted to it. Every used Car I have bought had like 12 year old tires on it, and its always the best thing, to drive it for a week or so, and then get a new set of tires, and the whole car just feels like its newly born. Even better for winter tires, and even better for Motorcycle tires. Oh especially Motorcycle Tires. As an adv Motorcycle traveler, I look forward to every tire change, because you can always try a completely new set of tires, depending on where you plan to ride. On time you get a nice road tire and can carve canions on end, the next time you get some 50/50 tires and can crush larger offroad travels to remote places. I freaking love getting new tires.

That's something I've noticed too. I pick vehicles that I make a connection with, the ones that silently scream "I'm the one." I think part of it is because I have never actually bought a vehicle that ran when I got it. You put blood, sweat, and tears into bringing a vehicle back to life and I believe you make a bond with it. Some sort of connection, more so than just buying and driving it will ever make. You can tell when they are hurting, and their pain becomes your own. I've had 3 very noteable ones, my '99 Blazer, my (retired) '81 Suzuki Gs-650 motorbike, and my '86 Goldwing 1200. None of them will win any beauty contests, but I love them to death and will be hard-pressed to get rid of any of them, even for a direct upgrade.

My first car was a 2000 Cavalier in high school, $1500 bucks, 77k miles, cracked dash, no AC, no radio, peeling paint, but ran good, and for some reason those Cavaliers had KILLER stock bucket seats. Liked her well enough, got me point A to point B, and made good use of her for about 4 years. Sold it back to my brother for 1/2 price (proceeds which went back into my next vehicle) when I graduated and he ended up rolling it within a year taking a dirt road turn too quickly. I had moved onto a wrecked '99 Blazer my Senior year (while I still had the Cavalier), picked it up for 250 bucks non-running after a deerstrike. That thing was decked out (for 90's standards) with pretty low mileage on the clock, and I really wanted it because of the light work, hauling and trail running I do that the car couldn't do. 550 bucks in scrapyard parts from an '01 Oldsmobile Bravada got me on the road, and have had her for 5 years now. Keep in mind this is the most reliable car my family has ever owned. And like Bladed said in the video, if it's snow you want to talk about, why not get snow tires instead? On top of that, we live in DC, this has been the first year of snow in so long, and even when it does, it doesn't stay for long, and public transport is good enough that it's ok to be without a car for a week or so.
@jfox24
@jfox24 3 ай бұрын
Proper tires are definitely the answer. Not every car has 4WD or AWD, but all cars have 4 wheel braking. 2 more driven wheels might help you get moving in the snow, but it won't make a difference when you're trying to stop a sliding vehicle. The added weight of the AWD system would probably make you slide even further compared to the same car with 2WD.

My last car was a 2003 Trailblazer. I paid $5k cash for it 7 years ago. I wrecked and tore up the frame, oil pan, and transmission. I decided to buy a $15k Challenger with low miles and two owners that I wanted instead of fixing the Trailblazer. I can afford it so I don't feel bad about it. Yes it's a V6 but it's the nicest thing I have ever had, I'm not a racecar driver, and I love it.

I am related to people of the first type, though non enthusiast. I used to own a chrysler 300m, very reliable to me(just annoying to work on), but then I switched to a grand prix GXP(half-stupid, but I can afford it at least) and sold the 300m to my sister, who did not like to do oil or tire changes and had to be forced to drive another car or take rides until her front suspension got wrecked in a crash caused by, guess, a tire unbeading(wheels were bad, but they were good when I had them) and she spun into a ditch. granted, my move to my car isnt smart, but I honestly plan to make it more reliable anyway(only problem is a small trans leak), and it is an LS engine still(though a niche FWD one). even had all tires swapped with half a year and basic engine maintenance.

I fell into the second category, because the '03 civic I had as a first car was leaking oil out of every surface. Had a blown head gasket, had stripped valve cover bolt threads in the cylinder head. Overheated multiple times. My thing was, I would do the work, but I didn't want to tie up my parent's car port lol. So, I sold it, and got a '19 civic Si. Even though I wanted to upgrade to an 03 SiR hatch or Si coupe...

The changing tires thing is wild. My example is my mountain bike. Got the bike and tires in like 2000, and just replaced them like 3 months ago. They weren’t flat or bald still but I got a whole tune up. And cause I knew the shop owner pretty well I got the whole tires and tune up for 300 bucks. Only thing I ruined was my gears and they didn’t change properly.

I 100% agree with your points, but I have a specific issue in my way about fixing a vehicle that is just making my problem make sense to me. Since May of 2022, my vehicle has had a bad transmission. I waited nearly 6 months with my vehicle in the shop for them to get a new transmission in to replace it before I had to have the vehicle back under the stipulation that as soon as they got the transmission in, they would call me to let me know so they could finally replace it. I've never received a call from them and have determined they probably won't even bother. So now I have a vehicle with a bad transmission that is now outside the warranty date and I either have to pay for it out of pocket, or just have to trade it for a new vehicle. The problem is, if I keep it, and I do get the transmission replaced, I'm now aware that this vehicle is prone to transmission problems and that it may just happen again.

I still have the 1993 Toyota T100 my parents bought a year before I was born. I’ve been learning to keep it maintained because I’ve gotten attached to it and also out of spite of the government, the auto industry, and stupid normies who trade in every 3-5 years. I just recently did my first timing belt replacement on it solo as well as replacing the shocks with Bilstein 4600s, putting new brakes (pads/shoes), calipers, and drums on, new water pump and thermostat, and even replaced the old copper contact spark plugs from 2002 with Denso Iridium Twin-Tip spark plugs. And also I replaced the distributor wires with NGK low-resistance mag wire cables. Ran just fine in -11 temps recently. Oh, and it’s an 8ft bed with manual transmission and 4WD.

I bought a 16 sorento in 2018 with 30k on it. Paid it off September of last year. Two weeks into November I dropped it off for its 3k oil change. Mechanic left me a couple of texts and a voicemail. One of the texts was a link to an article on the issues an owner can expect. It was like a check list for everything I had go wrong. This latest problem was burning oil. He said I dropped it off 2qts low. I was so disappointed. I had the intent of taking that car as far as I could go, didn’t realize that was two months after payoff and only up to 110k. The value of the car was going to be less than the eventual repair cost of replacing the engine. So I got what I could out of it for selling it (more than I could get trading in) and used that as a down payment on a 24 Corolla. It’s even cheaper to pay off than the Sorento was, cheaper to fill up too. Biggest challenge I’m having is adjusting to how smooth the cvt is.

I remember with my old buick, 1999 and had 450k miles on it, the transmission started to go out on it. Note, I also only paid $1k for it and had drove it around for 3 years. Within the month I decided that it wasn't worth it to get a new transmission, and I bought a newer used car. Best decision I ever made, ontop of keeping consistent maintenance on the vehicle so it runs as smooth as possible. In fact I'm in the process of getting the parts to replace the rear brakes and rotors.
