4 SECRETS OF EL MORRO FORT, SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO

The Castillo San Felipe del Morro, also known simply as El Morro, is a citadel or castle or fort built between 16th and 18th centuries in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Lying on the NW point of the islet of Old San Juan, Castillo San Felipe del Morro is named in honor of King Philip II of Spain. The fortification, also referred to as el Morro or 'the promontory,' was designed to guard the entrance to the San Juan Bay, and defend the Spanish colonial port city of San Juan from seaborne enemies.There are four secrets about the fort that I reveal today in this video. Over two million visitors a year explore El Morro, making it one of Puerto Rico's leading tourist attractions.

At least the slaves in the Spanish empire had some rights and were allowed to buy their own freedom or marry a european under the Church. Unlike slavery under the Anglo protestant colonies which was much more brutal

My 3rd Great Grandfather Roberto Cofresi, was executed for being a pirate in 1825 by the Spanish, and is buried somewhere on the grounds of the fort.

@@arkblazer1 He had one daughter that survived to have 7 children. José Lucas,Cofresí was my great Grandfather. He was listed as the father in law, on my grandparents wedding. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberto_Cofres%C3%AD

It was not rerired by the us army in 1961 as my mother worked there in 1967/68 for Dr john partin an army medical captain
