The two students that killed their teacher are terrifying. They acted so casual about not only killing their teacher over a bad grade, but also receiving life sentences. When they apologized to the family, they said it in such a robotic way that they weren't even saying it because they were sorry for themselves, they were saying it because they had to. They killed their teacher, didn't care enough to hide the body, and went to court to receive life sentences as if it were a minor inconvenience. Both are complete antisocial psychopaths.

The law often requires it if the killer is a minor or if they cooperated with the investigation. The one getting off easiest is probably Rachel Shoaf, who will likely be paroled in May 2028. Her cohort Shelia Eddy has apparently alarmed the mental health professionals who examined her because her parole date is listed as 01/01/3000. That's right, the year 3000.

I’m obviously not defending people who kill, but just because something is written down doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn’t come from the heart. Sometimes you have more to say and several things to address, and a single moment isn’t enough to fully work through your mind and externalize all of it at once. Some people communicate their emotions differently. Letters are written because their contents are formed over a long period of dwelling and reflecting.

@@kimlangley5552 MS looks very remorseful but your right she could be faking everything. I still think there is no viable evidence to charge her w murder rather involuntary manslaughter. I am not saying she's an innocent doll. I'm just saying it actually could have been a mistake. Where's the evidence she drove the route the day before? And could it not just have been a coincidence. The grieving families and prosecutors seem to have railroaded her. Evidence of car crash where one survives I think should credit some the survivor. How would someone/anyone drive intentionally 100 mph into a brick building? Her murder sentence seems illogical at best. She really should have been committed to a mental institution for a few years to see if she was capable of even understanding what she did or if it was intentional.

A part of the Spanish teacher's obituary: After graduating from school, Nohema worked 17 years as a flight attendant for Mexicana de Aviación. She also studied to be a commercial airline pilot and became one of the first women in Mexico trained to fly passenger jets. Nohema never lost her love of travel, a passion she passed on to her children. Paul and Nohema moved to Fairfield in 1992 where they reared their family of three children. She became active in St. Mary Catholic Church and eventually attended Mass daily. Nohema’s faith was always her guiding light, and she became a liaison between the parish and Fairfield’s small, but growing Latino community.

Concurrent sentencing is a judicial cheap shot. It reduces multiple felonies to one served all at once. Add to that early release, and it's a get out of jail free card. That first girl who drove into a wall at 100 mph is not going to spend life in prison. She'll be out in less than 20 years, with plenty of life left in her. It's a slap in the face to the two males whom she murdered as well as their families too.

Possibility of parole. In most civilized countries (of which I do not include the US) most murder convicts get 15 to 25 years. Life without parole is withheld for the most egregious of murders and rarely applied. Execution is non-existent in more than 2/3 of countries and not a single advanced democracy (the US not being an advanced democracy.) But, as I said, the sentence allows for the possibility of parole, not parole guaranteed. And to get parole would require multiple circumstances to be in agreement including the victims views. Of course you don't allow for the reality of the sentence because you are creating a strawman in order to whine.

Sadly, even when a Jury of 12 peers find an Accused GUILTY of multiple counts, a Judge can over-rule the Verdict and allow the accused to walk away without any conviction recorded and without any community service . It's pathetic. My FATHER was accused, arrested of over 175 Counts of Rape and Sexual Abuse and Sexual Assault plus Physical Torture on "me" as I was growing up, from ages 2 to 23. The Criminal Trial took 4 weeks, 3 days, the Jury took 3 days to go through the evidence and come back with GUILTY to all but one charge (due to a discrepancy of time). Anyway, the Judge was the same age as my then elderly father (72 yrs old) and the Judge felt sorry for him, saying he was the same age as Mr.... And that he wouldn't want to go to jail for any of the crimes Mr ... (My dad) was found guilty of. That because of overwhelming medical evidence a precedence would need to be established too and he-the Judge, was retiring in 7 weeks time and didn't want to spend his last weeks on precedence documents so it was in the best interests of the Courts to overturn the guilty verdict and let him go, unblemished. 😢 Outside the Courthouse, the 12 members of the Jury spoke to Police to ask if they could approach me - they came over to me and asked if they could hold me, hug me, apologize for the outcome as they expected and assumed he would go directly to jail. They were in tears, men and women, telling me how sorry they were that my life had been what it was and that they believed me and know I am courageous. They all wished me a better life etc. It's strange how we all assume everything's up to a Jury until you get a Judge who the Police already had a nickname for, as this judge had a reputation for letting off any father who was accused of rape, abuse, the police and prosecutors reckoned he must be guilty of the same, but his family is silenced by his position. 😢
