A personal anecdote about Maria Callas: back when I was doing my masters degree here in the UK, I used to live in a hall of residence full of Greeks. I bought a CD of the Callas. My Greek housemates knew the name, but had never listened to her before. So I actually made them discover her.

@ShiriMagar Greeks are by and large very patriotic. So they all knew her name, of course, but none of them bothered listening to her. One of my housemates at the time got really fond of La Habanera sung by Callas, for some reason.

I'm not sure it was the same book, but i remember my father reading a biography of the Callas.
