Great question Diana! Premium leathers by La-Z-Boy are treated with aniline dye to preserve and enhance the material.
@ObelixCMM2 жыл бұрын
@@FurnitureAcademy This is no answer again, both are aniline dyed and difference is that pigment is added to semi aniline. So which one is it? In my opinion semi aniline would be better in majority of furniture applications, but you should be open about it and not give "politicians" answer.

Great explanation, with videos, about those two types of "leather." What about "full grain," and "split grain?" You did not talk about durability of bonded leather (wearing through, stretching, staining, etc.) vs. top grain leather. You did not talk about cost differences among the various leathers. If a top grain leather chair costs twice as much, but lasts four times longer than the same chair in bonded leather, then it might be worthwhile. But if it costs four times as much, maybe not.

@FurnitureAcademy2 жыл бұрын
Hey There Thuy, faux leather is bonded leather so it is not genuine. Genuine leather won't peel but it can crack, scratch, and scuff if it isn't properly maintained. It is recommended that leather be cleaned and conditioned at least twice a year to protect the natural oils.

I went to a furniture row. And purchased one of there sofa recliners several years back. I wanted leather and I was well aware of bonded leather of how it peels off after a while. The salesman assured me it wasn’t bonded told me it was a new technology similar to bonded that it was more like a split grain . Well a few years passed and yeah I got duped it was bonded started peeling in little pieces. And what’s sad is I paid top dollar for the sofa. Thinking it was as good as top grain so buyers beware. Of the materials before you put hundreds or thousands of hard earned money into your next piece of furniture. Next time I will gladly pay the extra hundred or two I thought I was saving for a name brand like lazy boy.

What density foam do you use? You don't, it a pillow, at least on the back supports. I have a Lazy Boy microfiber couch which the back support "indented" in less than a month. Your "warranty" department told me it was normal wear. Really? Sent a "tech" out and he literally took a coat hanger and did some "fluffing" to the "pillow" and called it a day. In 2 weeks it happened again. After much insistence, the whole back was replaced and it happened again. I lived with it and swore I would never buy another Lazy Boy product.

My husband and I spent a fortune on couch,loveseat and two over stuffed chairs from La Z Boy. We hated the furniture! We thought if we paid top dollar we would have the furniture for years! We gave it away 2 1/2 years later. The leather got stain marks on the chairs where your head rested. ALL of the furniture got crease marks on the seating areas and arm rest. The furniture looked like it was 20 years old. My husband faithfully treated the leather with the leather solution the store had us buy. It was only my husband and I. We did not abuse the furniture. When we complained to the store they said it’s supposed to age like that! I will never go to LaZ Boy again.

I think price is a issue with leather. People by cloth because its alot cheaper. If your buying real leather, a couch will be 2500 to 4k dollars easy. Vs a cloth couch that may cost under 1k. Microfiber couches are good for durability without breaking the bank. Stay away from bonded leather it peals and looks like shit after only a few years.

Bonded leather isn't a product. It's trash. Bonded leather creates fill in landfills of furniture that should be serviceable.
@ObelixCMM2 жыл бұрын
Most durable leather is full grain not top grain, but I guess Laz-Y-Boy does not sell full grain leather furniture. Leather does not have to be split in half or any other fraction, usually it is split to accommodate for intended application of full grain or top grain leather (work boots 6 to 8 oz, upholstery 3 to 4 oz) Actually split leather (AKA suede) is softer than top grain before treatment, split leather in upholstery ind. is embossed to look like full grain and heavily pigmented (painted) Breathability of leather is determined by dying/painting process, if you dye top and split (suede) split would be more breathable. Heavy paint finish used in upholstery would changes this, not cut of leather. One thing he was correct on is bonded pleather, it is not leather as it could be as low as 10% leather.

Genuine leather is always better on sofas, if you pick the leather option. Faux leather won't last very long but genuine leather does. It doesn't rip or tear easily. Even though I'm not a fan of fabric sofas, you're better off with that instead of pleather on sofas. All my sofas and ottoman are made of genuine leather while everything else, such as my dining chairs, barstools, bed frame, etc is made of faux leather.
