As many of your viewers mentioned, we love all of the makeovers which include the chair with the toile fabric, the candlesticks and the trunk with those awesome feet. Great job and great ideas. Also, I liked the small picture frames on the back of the kid's chairs. I have some that size and will figure out something to use. I'm an angel fan, with or without wings. Love the concrete look on those. TFS

Wow!!! My mom has two of those exact chairs, only they were considered a Spanish influenced style back in the 70’s. The seats have a beautiful caning seat bottom and red velvet cushions with tassels that tie on. They were VERY, VERY expensive chairs. She still has them in her formal room.
@oldmaplehome2 жыл бұрын
Wow, so neat!! I actually noticed when I was editing the video today the caning under the supports - I didn’t even see it when I was redoing the chair! This chair is very heavy and sturdy, so I can believe they were pricey back in the day!

Love the chair you created! I use a square shaped wooden chopstick as a way to tuck material or add trim with hot glue gun. Saves my fingers and it gives me more agility. I keep a jar with cold water nearby, so if glue starts to gunk up...or hot glue gets on a finger...I can plunge it in cold water! Easy way to pull of built up glue, or save a burning finger lol!

@@oldmaplehome We've moved from South Africa to Ireland a couple of years ago and you do not find loads of fabric here. If you do find fabric, it is so expensive. However, I found some toile de jouy at a flea market and I am saving it now for when I find that perfect chair to upcycle. You've already given me the inspiration, I have the fabric, all I need now is the chair. 😉

I will be glad when antiquing wax and dark glaze go out so we arent told to put them on to just then cover them back up. A little tan paint in crevices and on raised areas would achieve the same thing without making it look dirty

You don't have to use antiquing wax on your projects Michelle...

You need a bigger brush for the table ...even though it's going to be a hit and miss to areas.....also on your chair, making a pattern out if even a brown roll of brown paking paper.. ie. UPS brown paper will get you a better fit on the seat

It looked like there was cane webbing under the black fabric of the seat on that chair. I wonder if it was damaged and that’s why it had a cushioned cover over it, or if it whoever did it just didn’t like the cane. Could you see it when you painted the bottom of the chair? I really like the overall finish of it and the toile fabric
@oldmaplehome2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tessa! I actually completely overlooked the cane when I was redoing the chair… I didn’t notice it until I was editing. I Will bet that it was damaged though because the chair didn’t seem to be too well-loved when I got it.

Great job on these makeovers and I really enjoy your channel. Just FYI, the process of rubbing the transfer is called "Burnishing", not varnishing. It's not important....I'm just OCD, lol!
@oldmaplehome2 жыл бұрын
Ha ha! I was so close, yet so far lol thanks for clearing that up - I would have never realized!
@hildacollier2638 Жыл бұрын
I think you should have made a cushion to fit and just tied it on. Also, I think you could have just done that last paint step and skipped the first two and you would have had the same effect. This comment is on the first chair.
@oldmaplehome Жыл бұрын
I didn't mind recovering the cushion, it was super easy. The stained wood underneath was very dark compared to the glaze and I wanted to soften it up. :)

I don't think the bookends are angels or cherubs. They don't have any wings. Maybe just two sweet little boys. You did a great job.
