Buying the DJI Mavic Air 2s was a great decision for me. Camera, features and coping with wind - all fantastic. It is such a pleasure to fly. I have also just purchased the Mini 3 pro which I have yet to fly. I had the Mini 2 which I gave to my niece's husband. It did surprisingly well in wind. But, I took your advice when it stopped moving against the wind and I lowered my altitude and got back in 'sports mode'. The wind had shifted. I initially launched into the wind, but a kilometer out, the wind shifted. Yes, I was freaked out, but, I remembered your advice and got the Mini 2 back to the launch point. Thanks!

This is interesting. The larger drones might have more power but they are also larger in size and thus the wind acts against them more. @tjbc97943 жыл бұрын
Nice wind test. I have the Evo 2 Pro also and last week ran into some heavy winds here in Chicago. Had the same issue you were experiencing but I was in normal mode not ludicrous. I figured the obstacle avoidance was limiting the angle the drone could fly at, so I switched it off (just touch the green OA symbol in the upper right hand corner of the screen) until it turned red. Evo 2 then easily handled going into the wind at its top speed in that mode - 22 mph. Did not try it in ludicrous, but my guess is it would probably work the same. Try switching off the OA when going into the wind and see what happens. I see the MP2 switches off the OA in Sport mode, probably the same issue - OA was preventing a steeper angle.

Nice video, Ian. However, in my opinion, I think a better test to include for any wind rating test of all the drones would be "how do they hold position and stability in such strong winds?" Reason that is relevant is that is where you are going to be filming and/or taking photos. I have an Autel Evo 2 Pro, and DJI Mini2 + Mavic Air 2: while all fly for speed just as you show here in this video, for actual video or still photography, the E2P provides a rock steady platform even in high winds, and the results show in the videos I have recorded with it along the coast here in Southern California, with some very high, gusty winds on the bluffs at the beach. I also never had any doubts about getting it back to the launch point, something I have had with my Mini 2 for the obvious reasons you demonstrated here: Your point about returning with the wind is Spot On critical at those times! Also - The E2P RTH function in the wind is still more accurate than either of my DJI birds. Lastly - I recommend turning off the Radar Map in the Autel Explorer and DJI Fly apps: gets rid of the annoying beeping while keeping the OA benefits. Keep the excellent vids coming - I like the views from around the UK!

Hi there. Good points. I've found all the models excellent for producing super-smooth video when stationary; I guess maybe a better test is a 1 second still picture using a dark ND filter to extend the exposure time. After all these videos about the mini 2 being the only drone you need - glad the Air 2s scored some point back.

Good vid, answered some of my questions. I’ve been a Mavic Pro flyer for years and just recently got into the DJI FPV drone. While I was watch someone’s video I noticed when he hand landed his done, instead of using the controller to shut it down he just tilted his wrist 90 degrees and it stopped the motors. Been doing like that it ever since. Wish I would have known this years ago.

I don't like flipping it down as it's stress on the props and motors.... I keep the left stick down to stop the props, but that's my take.... :)

Well done tests. Very informative! Wow did they burn in with the wind.

Great Vid as always, Thought the Autel would be better due to it's newness (is that a word). Hope the Mavic 3 when (If) it comes out this year re-addresses the max wind as the Air 2 S shows that improvements have been made. Also hope it has a 'C' rating.

I hope so too Cheers.

Great Video and comparison tests, well done! While I was watching I think I detected that when you got towards the most upwind distance most were struggling more. I think that might be the effect of the slight 'valley' between the hills, which would probably cause acceleration of wind speed through there. (it'll accelerate up the hill slope). But what surprised me the most is that you weren't suffering any sudden gimbal droops with any of them. Even with the gimbal pointing down slightly I regularly get them especially with the mini2 in much lighter winds.... interesting! Thanks again for another informative video, and can't understand why you've got even a single thumbs down on this, what's not to like? 👍

The gimbals are all far larger and have more tolerance than the Mini 2, so you won't get that issue....

@@IaninLondon True, but I still get it with my Mavic 2 Zoom also!

Hi Ian, nice surprise, air 2s👍👏

Surprised with the lack of performance with the Autel but I did notice the Air2S was lower than the EVO & M2P at only @15m as opposed to @25m. Could make the difference as you’ll be aware. Well done Air2S though 👍👍

Very true.

You need to rewatch, the Air 2S was the one that flew at 25 mph not the Evo or M2P

Great stuff as always Ian. No way I’d be sending my little baby up in wind like that! 😬 Love Ted having a good scrap in the background 😂😂
