I just do the same as I do in FL, route every sound that i want to be sidechained (basically everything) into one mixer and in that mixer there's just one amplifier, I then use a white noise sample for the "ghost kick" (using peak controller beacuse it's a habit) and mess the sample until I like the sidechain.

Yeah, I think this technique works most software, so I’m not surprised that you do something similar

I would never have guessed the SC Compressor FX needs connecting to a Peak Controller 🤦‍♂- That was the missing piece of the puzzle for me, I was starting to wonder if the SC Compressor was just another of the 'buggy ones'. I wish I had the time to learn the LMMS source code so I could help make it better, (I've programmed for 40 years, everything from embedded to enterprise), maybe when the kids have left home, maybe when I retire…

This is my favourite sidechaining tutorial on YT, I'm confused by something though. Some tutorials set the peak controller's attack and decay to very short whereas others set the attack to the max (like in yours). What is the purpose of these two knobs?

@@raulillescasvelazquez3608 Amigo, Kickstart lo abres en el menú de tu cadena de efectos del mismo archivo de audio donde tienes tu melodía, o bien en la cadena de efectos del canal del master que le asignaste a tu archivo de audio,... solo tienes que poner el archivo .dll de kickstar en la carpeta que tienes seleccionada en la configuración de directorios de complementos vst de tu LMMS

controller not showing up in user controller how do I make it appear?

Open up the controller rack and see if you can see the controller there. If you can then you’re probably using the wrong options on the knob. If you can’t see it double check if you’ve inserted the peak controller effect. This should work on LMMS 1.2 and above, so please make sure you’re running the latest version. Hope this helps.

Wouldn't be easier just use third party VST effect sidechaining plugin for this? Some of the default plugins seem really over complicated than in paid DAWS for some reason lol.

If you have Windows, yes. If you have Linux like me, then the VST support is not worth trying so we're stuck with doing things the geeky way.

Yes, you can route multiple tracks to an FX channel, and place the sidechain compressor there.

Yes, you set it to fx 1, and put the effect on the FX channel 1 (if you click the mixer button you can do this)

What about Tal Filter 2 or the LFO settings in LMMS??

This is for sidechaining with stock FX, so I haven’t included VSTs or anything here. The LFO settings in LMMS are, unfortunately, unreliable and buggy, and they don’t offer you an easy way to set the LFO to the BPM (it’s speed knob works differently). Apart from that, if you want anything other than a regular drop every x beats, it’ll require quite some automation to achieve. Whereas even the fourth method I mentioned is easier to set up and offers more control at the expense of nothing.

My display of automation here was mean to show how tedious it is to do (as of 1.2). Automation has improved a lot in 1.3 and it’s actually a good approach now, so I’d say the video is a little outdated. Hope you found it useful though
