As long as it doesn't damage the battery for the phone that may save your life, isn't a bad idea. But I found a 9vlt battery does the same with steel wool,which you have shown here as well. But clear the area you are lighting the fire on first before you try to warm yourself and your hands...you might otherwise end up lighting up the whole forest, and yourself if you don't...safety first.

Even if it does damage the phone it could save your life. If you're in a situation where you know it's getting dark and soon going to go to the negatives you'll need to start a fire... Would you rather break a phone or live to see a million new phones?

Those were grass blades moving, not heat distortion. If it was heat distortion, there wouldn't be 3 blades of grass moving but all the other ones standing still. They'd all have visible motion.
