Exploring w/Rick and Bekah

Exploring w/Rick and Bekah

Күн бұрын

Def one of my favorite places. There are some really cool vintage items here.
**UPDATE: I noticed a lot of people saying it's not vintage stuff. To me if it's 25 years plus it's cool, even if it's just a dumpy old TV or microwave...doesn't HAVE to be valuable. I appreciate all the old 'junk' as you call it. To each their own, sorry if you don't like the stuff we like.

Lorraine Nichols steel toed boots are protect from stuff mostly falling on your foot/feet, not from stepping on nails so much. My brothers put nails thru there feet more then i can recall just by going thru buildings before ripping them down... I would say to wear protective stuff as in gloves, masks n even a high quality jacket, pants like car hartt n mechanx stuff. I still suggest boots to help prevent sprains or ?.. Falling thru floors.i hv had friends ride motorcycles n put a leg down on a back road n their leg snap right inside the high boot like a military boot.. That boot held the foot on literally n helped keep the pain n swelling to a min..just a thought... But they were traveling at about 5-10 mph? Max..

That looks like an old school building. Me and my husband have explored a few of these and they all look about the same. And they were filled with all kinds of junk from other places and old clothes and thrift store items. I think a lot of towns use these old school buildings as a kind of dumping ground for stuff they don't know what to do with.

Such a cool old building, does look like a bit of a dumping ground - so sad all of those amazing old things left to rot. Small word of advice though, I wouldn't flip light switches in old buildings, in the off chance there still is power flowing into those old lines it could spark a major fire and burn the whole place. Awesome video! Tyfs!! Best of wishes - be safe out there!

OMG, my heart began thumping when I found your video.......AAAAAAHHHHHH, (screaming wildly)!! I'm in L-O-V-E! I love scavaging! What fun it must have been to investigate this old home, business, whatever it was. I saw many items that could be salvaged, and the doors in this place are FAB. Who wouldn't love to have a sunburst clock? I even saw a few very valuable items. This is history you guys and I'm glad you're exploring. I'm truly not the crazy cat lady at the end of the street.... it's just that when I see the old craftmanship, the wood that could be beautiful again, some of those cabinets that could be used... the fixtures, the sinks that people now pay a fortune for, etc; it makes me wonder why the city/county/owner doesn't reuse these valuable pieces. I'll never understand it..... Thanks for the video, I really enjoyed it!

In that one area where there was a lot of junk on the shelves, you were looking at an adding machine, not a calculator. J Jo I had a red IBM Selectric at my favorite job ever. That typewriter was awesome. My sister worked for the same company and had a turquoise one. Our supervisor ordered them for us new in 1981 or 82, It was exciting when they arrived. We could type like crazy on those things. I would love to have one again despite owning two computers, two tablets and a smart phone, lol.

That looks like a Selectric I, made from 1961 to 1971 Then the Selectric II with more square covers was introduced. Selectric III came in the 80's. Used and refurbished ones were available for years. You can still get a III for about $500.00

Thank you for doing this! I'll be watching for more. However, as everyone else has mentioned, please wear protective gear. Masks, gloves, safety glasses or goggles and good strong leather boots, jeans and long sleeve shirts are an inexpensive insurance policy against the most common "uglies" of abandoned building exploration.

If a building is in a zone that is commercial and allows for "storage" it must meet certain Percentages of disrepair in order to be torn down by ordnance. Usually 30% of the building must be in full disrepair or :"hazard" condition. I am sure there are slight differences in various towns and cities.

at 17 minutes, the toy is a house for weebles. They were egg shaped people that were weighted on one end so they stood up. I had some of those houses, they made a whole town. The hole in the side was a shoot, you could drop a guy in the top and he would shoot out the side. It is from the late 60-70's (the wiki says 71-83, just checked) Bikes with Banana seats and ape hanger handle bars came out in the 60 and have never really stopped being made, though they are less common now.

Nice videos, thanks. Rode that bike in the '70s, typed on similar type writers, except the ones I used were not electric, that one was probably from the early '80s. That "calculator" was an adding machine. I actually noticed the paper for it later in the video. Lets see, owned one of those floor model TVs for a long time, it became a stand for my TVs later on. Lots of memories in there. Just imagine all the past lives now gone you were looking at. Someone bought some of those things new and were so happy to have it. Now it just seems kind of sad to see it all wasting away. Do be careful in those older buildings though. Be mindful of things like asbestos and mold. You should consider wearing a mask to filter out the stuff in some places.

There are so many really vintage things in there! I agree with you that it doesn't have to be worth anything to be able to appreciate it. I'm old enough now to recognize a lot of what you find. As far as the Li'l Miss bicycle goes, there are many collectors that would prefer to leave it as is with the patina on it. It was in great shape. The other bicycle with the white seat had what was called a banana seat. Those were made in the late '60's and early '70's and were very popular. The typewriter was an IBM Selectric. I've used one many times and was a great typewriter. My typing speed picked up 20+ words per minute over a manual when I started using one. The building looks like an old school building before it was a thrift store. The small filing cabinets near the beginning looked like the card catalog from a library, but you told what it really was. I also agree that the building looks like it's just been used as a dumping ground. Too bad there are vintage things in there just being left to ruin and decay.

I saw quite a few vintage items in there. The little red bike was worth money. When you went in the back room alone where the shelves were, you totally looked over the coal stove right when you come in on the right that looked like a rusted out cylinder. Lots of good pickins' in there Thanks for sharing!

coolest thing in there they didn't even notice...The vintage stereo/record player that's built into a cabinet. it's about 6-8 feet long in front of the old white stove/oven. it had a bunch of boxes piled on top of it, you'd have to open the Cabinet to see the stereo equipment, the speakers are on each end. those are very popular again and some are worth some good money depending on condition,brand,etc....I really dig looking at anything old too! I was born in 77 so for me things need to be a little bit older than this stuff ☺

One of those old bicycles looked like a Schwinn Stingray, like the one I bought new in the mid 1960s. I think some of the stuff was dumped there at different times. Some of it looks like it's worth something, worth restoring. But it all belongs to somebody... whoever owns the property. If you could find the owner you could probably make a $$$ offer for cleaning out all of the stuff you would want. Eventually it will all be bulldozed to make room for a new building so whatever is removed now will be saved from the landfill. Good job on the video, too.

I used to explore old abandoned houses and I found stacks of Life magazines from the 20's and 30's, really old comic books, oil lamps, kitchen utensils, tools. I was boating once and saw some old cabins that looked like they were just abandoned during a flood, with everything left in place, like the people had left in a hurry and never came back home.

In the last room you went in, without Beach, there were two bikes standing in the doorway to another small room. One of then had long handlebars and a long seat we used to call a banana seat. I don’t remember what brand it was but my cousin had that bike. The Electrolux vacuum is just like my mom’s. She bought it sometime in the late 60’s or early 70’s. I was born in 65 and she bought it sometime when I was still small. The kicker of it is, that thing still works!

The filing cabinet was manufactured in Youngstown Ohio and I live just north of there. General Fireproofing (GF) sold out years ago. They were known for fireproof desks and other office furniture in the 50s and 60s. I am not sure when they stopped making office equipment. The vacuum cleaner is a Rainbow. They were very expensive. There were so many items I could name from my youth. You did a good job of taking me in the way-back machine.

The outside of the building made me think it was once a school. Often older school buildings get re-purposed into other things after they close. I know of one that's used as a sort of indoor shopping plaza of sorts. The place you been in was probably inhabited by a few others over the years, as often places like these tend to have riff-raffs, junkies and other shady people often vacating to from time to time. I been in one abandoned place where someone placed a mattress on the top floor with crumbled snack wrappers and what looked like pop bottles filled with urine left behind.

A lot of people around here will buy whole storage unit lots at auctions (where poeple havent paid their storage fees) and will bring it to a warehouse. sometimes they will sell the stuff out of the warehouse, like a thrift store or yard sale or put it on craigslist (probably put an add in the newspaper, back then)... But thats what this reminded me of. Great videos, guys! Really enjoy them!

hi guys, I love watching your vids! Somebody has prob already pointed this out but, it may even be older than 2000. A squatter may have been sleeping there on that lovely mattress and had newspaper for recreational reading. Other pointers; wear gloves - either latex or work gloves. Bird and other animal feces, if transferred by touch to nasal passages or mouth, can lead to a serious lung disease. Filter mask and boots wouldn't hurt, but you guys have probably heard it all before. We meddlers do it cos we care and you're both lovely and we don't want to see anything bad happen to you. Rick I LOVE your sense of pleasure and wonder. I totally get it. Great camera skills and 'eye' Bekah! The place was a dump but there was still good salvage potential in a bunch of that stuff. Thank you guys for being voyeurs for us who'd like to be out there exploring like you. Keep hunting and be careful.

Vintage stuff - nostalgia - all very cool and I find myself reminiscing the older I get. Just something to put out to you - BE CAREFUL doing these things... in actuality you're probably committing illegal entry/trespass and some places may charge breaking and entering (which is a felony). In the off chance you come across a patrolling cop, neighbor to the business who acts on it or even someone strolling by and reports it - I would caution you to be aware. Even though this is abandoned junk no one cares about, private property laws still apply. I would also be careful of critters. Places like this attract mice/rats, which in turn attract snakes and other sorts of animals... some may be diseased (rabid raccoon/cat) and they will be quicker than you. These in themselves may or may not occur, however, then there is the more likely aspect of the structure's safety (and lack of it). Abandoned property is neglected and with the condition this is in, floor joists/roof beams, stud work/wall supports are all highly compromised. Would suck big if you went through a floor and landed on rusty nails, broke a leg and trapped (especially if you're alone). Lastly, places like this (typically if it is in an urban area) are commonly frequented by druggies and mental people. Sometimes they are dangerous, and worse if you are inside with a position of no escape. I just wanted to bring this to mind for you and everyone. Be safe.
