Fall on Your Knees is outstanding!!! Hooray to Jess for that recommendation. Regarding the doorstoppers on your list, like Pillars of the Earth and Eighth Life (Fall on Your Knees is hefty also), I recommend thinking of them chapter by chapter. Tell yourself you will just read a chapter each month. It’s likely that you will end up getting wrapped up in the story and read the books more quickly than that, but nevertheless, it’s cracking the covers that tends to be the biggest obstacle for me. Speaking of which, A Fine Balance has been on my TBR (and a physical copy on my shelf) for ages. I may overcome my dislike of Discord in order to join the FOMO group read. I haven’t yet read The Parable of the Sower and I am considering getting the graphic novel adaptation from the library. Kindred is fantastic and I think you will enjoy it. What a lot of great recommendations you have for the next few years! 💯

The book thief is fantastic. I agree that and then there were none is one of the best agatha christies! A Fine Balance is waiting for me on my shelf but it being chunky makes me nervous. Eve sounds so good and is one I really want to read. Long way down is a fantastic novel in verse and one of my favourites. Beloved is one of my favourite books of all time. I loved paradise lost but it is a good one to take your time with. A room of one's own is another good one. Not too long a read, compared to some of the others on your list! Annihilation is one of my favourite scifi gothic reads. I hope you enjoy the fifteen lives of harry august! Kindred is absolutely brilliant. What a project!! You've got this.

Yay! What a fantastic list! I might have to borrow this idea in some capacity as I’m just a couple of years from 40 as well. 😅 I’ve read and enjoyed The Four Winds. It’s pretty bleak, but I thought it was decent. Babel is my favorite dark academia. I love how it subverts a lot of typical dark academia tropes. I love A Gentleman in Moscow. After you read that one, I have a Recipe & Review video that was inspired by that book. I teach how to cook one of the dishes mentioned in the book. :) I just picked up Eve if you feel like buddy reading it. 😅 So excited that you’re happy with my pick! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :) Parable of the Sower is a good pick! I’m not big on classics, but that one is quite interesting. Ahh Tomorrow And Tomorrow And Tomorrow.. I actually didn’t care for it. I found it quite dull. The Island of Sea Women is so good! It’s also brutal, definitely good for misery may. Really anything by Lisa See is worth a read. Kindred is excellent! You should check out the review of it by Kindles & Kicks. He really articulated why it’s so good so well. Excellent video. Looking forward to hearing what you think of all of them. Also, please rank them. 😅 I’m not competitive at all.

Thanks for the mention, good luck with your project. Charlie's recommendation "The Eighth Life" is on track to be one of my 5 best reads of the year. I know it is very long but it is worth the time spent on it, it follows the difficult and often tragic history of 20th century Georgia, through one family. When I saw it on your list I wondered if it were the book I'd recommended, but no my recommendation was the wonderful Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, which is loosely about gaming but I am no gamer and I loved it. Dear Reader, Alice's posthumous recommendation sounds intriguing.
