How I clean carpets with a shop vac; First, vacuum room. Then use a bucket of hot water, small amount of laundry soap and a cup of bleach. Then use nylon broom, dip in bucket, and sweep rug with the mixture. Then dump water and use fresh hot water and dip broom and sweep again, then use shop vac to suck up the water. It’s best when two people work together, one using broom the other using shop vac. The bleach kills fleas, bedbugs, and their eggs plus kills mold and prevents mold from over saturated carpets. If you have mold in your basement, use this method and use of walls, too. Make sure it is warm weather so you can open a window for ventilation, the bleach 100% dissipates in a few hours. It kills black mold which can be a health hazard, after cleaning, vacate house for a few hours, turn on fan.
