Doesn't matter that much. Elite Mameluke with full upgrade deals (10+4) Melee damage while Elite Teutonic Knights fully upgraded has (10+3) Melee armour --> 1 damage per hit. True, with armour, hp, and speed upgrade, it would be better, but this is the example of bad unit choice. The best unit from Saracen to counter this is actually their excellent Heavy Cavalry Archer, or even Hand Cannoneer if massed enough.

Again, if you have full upgrade on Elite Mameluke, you still need 100 hit to kill a single FU Elite Teutonic Knight. And you need to micro and will be pushed back intensely. In a real game, this is costly, as you may need to pay attention else where, or cannot afford to be pushed back. Better to always mix in half Heavy Cavalry Archers, and now your combo not only immune to enemy Heavy Cavalry, and these tanky Teutonic Knights, but also won't die too fast if loads of Halbs happen to get close to you.

It's actually funny if you read history of Mongol invasions and read about the Europe campaign: how Mongol horse-mounted archers laid waste to several European armies composed of mainly those heavy, slow knights. And the Mongols did all that with only half of their force, with the other half being in Vietnam after the Sung dynasty.

I think that's because of two things. First, europeans were just not used to dealing with cavalry archers, especially those with tactics such as the mongols. And secondly... the mongols knew to stay away from swords when they were using bows. The AI just isn't great at keeping ranged units alive.

Elite Teutonic Knights are extremely strong, but they can only defend, could not attack. If you are only defending your VERY long ranged castle from Paladins or Elite Huskarls, then Teutonic Knights would be effective.

Mamelukes are hit-n-run strategy, you can't use them in melee fights like this, anybody can use a single Mameluke to kill those 40 knights using hit-n-run but it will take like 40 hours xD

In reality if you try to have Mamelukes fight Teutonic Knights, that is a really bad fight to take. ETK can 1 v 1 a fully upgraded paladin, but they're really slow. Sure the Mamelukes could have kited them away, but still that is a really bad fight to take. Really the only infantry units that match up well are the Jaguar Warrior and the Samurai. However, Mameluke bonus vs cavalry and their speed make them much more useful overall.

The mamluke is a dumb unit. No one ever got on top of a camel and started throwing scimitars. Its just like the Frankish axe thrower, Axe throwers dont fit in a medieval setting, only in a late roman, early dark ages setting, and they definitively shouldnt throw two handed double edged axes, thets ridiculous! France should have the Paladin as a special unit, and the normal Paladin should be replaced by the "Heavy Knight" or something. Then we also have the Spanish and the Portuguese with their gunpowder XVI - XVII special units in the same castle age as the Frankish V - VI century axe throwers. This unrealistic units trigger me.
